RE: Jasper to Kolawna by Clearwater -- Route 5 (?)

Driven that a few times over the decades. BC5 is a good surface, though a bit winding in some areas. Not as scenic as Icefields, more of a mix of forest and farmland. Small towns only, so for us lunch stops utilize our rig. Plenty of roadside tables, though. Kamloops to Kelowna you have 97 and 97C -- both okay. I prefer 97C only because 97 can be so slow going north of Kelowna.

RE: Class A travel without interstates

I do my routing via the old Rand McNally. Works for me!

RE: Buying an RV in Oregon.

OP, like others say, you need to call or find the Cali rules from their DMV. That said, the way it usually works is that when you register a vehicle, you have to cough up whatever sales tax would accrue in that state. It's often reworded as a "use" tax. Usually you get credit for whatever tax you paid in the purchasing state. However, Oregon has no sales tax. You can predict what that means!

RE: Norton Security

I guess you didn't read my post, GDE. I specifically agreed that "stuff happens". I only stated that the whole computer experience is a lot smoother having switched from the company started by one "egocentric guru", to the company started by "a different egocentric guru". Beyond that, your checkoff list of vulnerabilities has exactly Zero to do with which operating system one uses.

RE: Converting to 12v fridge Canada question

OP, what do you see as the advantage to a pure 12v reefer compared to a 2-way?

RE: Norton Security

And for those touting "i" stuff, yeah, they to can get virus's, keyloggers, malware and are not "exempt" and you shouldn't throw rocks at non "i" products because some day, one of those rocks may bounce back and smash your "i" products glass house.. It's not a question of "touting", we all know stuff can happen. I can say, however, that after over 25 years on Windows stuff, I switched to Mac. Virtually all the issues I had with Win -- slow startups, hangups on shutdown, browser incompatibility, progressively slower machinery, and nefarious junk being attached to my computer -- all went away, once I got past the MS mindsets and learned the Apple mindsets. Will it last? -- who knows?

Go Mac and don't look back.

RE: Truck camper trade-in at dealer question.

They said they probably wouldn’t make much on it but they were going to honor the deal. I think I've heard this on every vehicle I've ever purchased!

RE: What is the most efficient way to bypass Chicago?

Not a fan of driving through any part of the Greater Chicago area. If it were me, I'd take I-39 south to US 24 east all the way across Indiana to Fort Wayne, I-469 around Fort Wayne and then pick up US 24 again to I-90 and on to Sandusky. I've done that route, and it is certainly less congested. But it does involve a large number of towns, cities, and stop lights. In a car it is okay, but in a big RV it can be tedious. I'd rather choose my time, and just bear with 294.

RE: US Hwy 412 across Arkansas & Oklahoma

Been a few years now. Tulsa was a bit of a hassle for me, poorly marked freeways. But 412 was ok, except the surface was bit chopped up if I recall. We were in a DP+toad. I stopped at Boiling Springs State Park, near Woodward OK. Out in the middle of nowhere, but we liked it.

RE: Arizona Hwy 89 ALT info please

The "drop-offs" between Fredonia and Vermillion are after you pass the exit to the North Rim. There's a long downgrade then. However, it is a good road, with shoulders, and the curves are not sharp. There are several viewpoint pullouts, also. It's no problem in an RV towing, as long as you control your speed. Plenty of RV's along that road.

RE: Day night shade replacement suggestions?

What size line, and can you recommend a brand? I usually have to restring my blinds annually... I used 60-70 pound test braided/teflon covered fishing line. A big roll at BassPro is under $15 and will do dozens of these. It is very strong, slides easily, and will resist the fraying at the joints that messes up the strings. There's several online videos of how to do it. Fussy, but once you do one, the rest are easy.

RE: Day night shade replacement suggestions?

Once you re-string the day/nites with something that slides properly (teflon covered fishing line) they work just fine.

RE: Best floor plan for 6 sleepers

If I had that many kids coming with us in the RV and wanted some privacy for the adults....I'd nix the Motorhome idea completely and start looking at larger 5th wheels or TTs Now you need a tow vehicle big enough to pull that beast, with seating for 6!

RE: Cleaning shower with grey/white "water spots".

I've had good success with CLR (diluted in water) and a gentle scrubby. But I'm intrigued by the EaZOff idea -- might be less work!

RE: Are Any Places To Stay Open Near Scottsdale Arizona?

There's also a couple of casinos over on the east side of S'dale -- though that doesn't fit your "away from the city noise" criterion.

RE: Are Any Places To Stay Open Near Scottsdale Arizona?

You might try Lake Pleasant Regional Park. Keep in mind that this is the busy time of year in those parts. I think they do online reservations.

I await someone telling me of any RV manufacturer whose product quality improved by selling out to a bigger outfit.
