RE: Renting out your RV--Help

The typical Rv has paper walls, flimsy plumbing, paper thin finishes on all trim, holding tanks that can overflow and destroy the inside in seconds. Only a specially made Rv could withstand the very inexperienced rental.

RE: Charge for each pet ??? your thoughts

Too many people don't pick up after their pets. If the owner has to pay someone to constantly go around and clean up dog do, you couldn't blame them for charging extra. They could just raise the rates, but that wouldn't be fair to others who don't own pets. According to EVERYONE, they always pick up after their pets. The evidence seems to say otherwise. Oh, those who take the time and effort to say they always pick up after their pets probably do. Those who don’t are not going to post their guilt.

RE: Warranty coverage

I have always agreed that extended warranties are a rip off. However, 5 yrs. into our 7 yr. warranty we have had 3 very expensive repairs done which include the refrigerator, our awning motor and electric heater. It saved us hundreds of dollars. We used a mobile RV tech.

RE: Dark interiors

The inside of our 2015 Durango is dark and it is my biggest complaint. On sunny days it’s fine, but in the shade, cloudy days, and at dusk it bothers me. As stated, if you like everything else about it, you are stuck. I wouldn’t care for oak cabinets, so I’m not sure what the solution is. Less tinting on the windows would help I would think, and more windows in the kitchen slide would have been nice. 20/20 hindsight is great since we didn’t realize that problem when shopping on a sunny day!

RE: RV Crushes Truck

The very first time we hitched our 5th wheel on our Pullrite, with no experience at all, we ALMOST dropped the trailer. Hubby says to watch the hitch as he slowly pulled forward. He said if the rig slides at all, yell. It did, and I did!! We immediately lowered the front “feet”, raised the rig up again and tried again successfully. From then on I always watched the pull test. It’s too much of an investment to ever become complacent.

RE: A Question Are you limited to life on pavement

To TOEDTOES, consider this a “like” for your comment.

RE: Change dining booth to table and chairs

We removed the end tables from the walls, we just lay them down when we move. We are considering the same with the dinette table since it has worked out well. The chairs don’t move even when we forget to fasten them.

RE: Local news story made me chuckle (stolen? dog)

A thief steels a dog and you chuckle? Guess you are not a dog lover.

RE: I think I'm stuck.

After a few extended stays at the dealer for very poor repair work we do it ourselves or call a mobile service. When our new fiver came it had a frig with a defective door. They lied when they said they replaced it and eventually I got a new door through a mobile rv service.

RE: For those that have had a blowout when towing

I, the passenger, saw the flying debris but heard nothing from our fifth wheel. It was the fourth year. Fair amount of damage to the rig, although only cosmetic.

RE: Parking motor home on pavers

We parked our fifth wheel and truck on our pavers, and although the pavers did not break, after a few years they did sink a bit under pressure.

RE: Couch to recliners

We removed all the rv furniture, theater seats and 2 rockers. We replaced with lazyboy recliners and a desk for work, space. The rv furniture was flaking and were space wasters as well.

RE: Sink covers on or off

I stored them when traveling since any remaining water in the lines splashed on them.

RE: Pets riding in trailer

Dogs are not livestock to be trailered. They are companion animals and should ride in the truck.

RE: New Puma TT Purchase with problems

Very typical. Fix as much as you can yourself, if you take it back to the dealer they will have it for weeks and the repairs will be poorly done. Especially all the cosmetic ones.

RE: Bedroom AC?

Ours shares ducting, so if we run the bedroom AC, it does a reasonable job cooling the LR, and vice versa.

RE: Home monitoring system?

It's nice to (maybe, if everything works correctly) be able to see a problem while snowbirding, but then what? You're 1000 miles away. You still need someone there with access to fix the problem. Nothing beats a neighbor or friend regularly checking on the place, even if you have to pay them. You are correct of course, we always leave a set of keys with a trusted neighbor or friend. Monitoring and an occasional visit work best.

RE: Keyless vehicles

Just gotta love the "convenience" of those "keyless" locks that need a backup key "just in case". If you have to carry a key in addition to the fob, why bother? You have to carry the fob, so an additional key is right there. Keyless is very convenient, no fumbling around to,open the door or start ignition.

RE: Thinking about changing from DirecTV to Dish

Never have a problem with DirecTv changing my locals back and forth. Heck they don’t even know I have an RV. Just have them change the zip code to our winter home then back again to our summer home. It only takes minutes if you call the number for movers. Why would they care? Just don’t expect to have local channels at both locations at the same time. This! Just don’t even say you have an RV. Summer home and winter home worked fine for us. They switched back and forth, no problem. However, we recently gave up Directtv altogether. Too costly, cable at home and Cable at our winter rv resort at no additional cost.
