RE: Home monitoring system?

It's nice to (maybe, if everything works correctly) be able to see a problem while snowbirding, but then what? You're 1000 miles away. You still need someone there with access to fix the problem. Nothing beats a neighbor or friend regularly checking on the place, even if you have to pay them. You are correct of course, we always leave a set of keys with a trusted neighbor or friend. Monitoring and an occasional visit work best.

RE: Keyless vehicles

Just gotta love the "convenience" of those "keyless" locks that need a backup key "just in case". If you have to carry a key in addition to the fob, why bother? You have to carry the fob, so an additional key is right there. Keyless is very convenient, no fumbling around to,open the door or start ignition.

What are your reasons for figuring a SW is better in every way? Driving!!

RE: Thinking about changing from DirecTV to Dish

Never have a problem with DirecTv changing my locals back and forth. Heck they don’t even know I have an RV. Just have them change the zip code to our winter home then back again to our summer home. It only takes minutes if you call the number for movers. Why would they care? Just don’t expect to have local channels at both locations at the same time. This! Just don’t even say you have an RV. Summer home and winter home worked fine for us. They switched back and forth, no problem. However, we recently gave up Directtv altogether. Too costly, cable at home and Cable at our winter rv resort at no additional cost.

RE: Sorry to leave

Good to hear you recovered quickly from your stroke and will continue to enjoy life! We also had to make the same decision for similar reasons, but like Barney S we will still be able to enjoy our rig parked in Florida. Now on to the next chapters of our lives!

One of the posts on the FB page says it was found just moments ago? No word about the dog.

RE: Dometic refrigerator setting while traveling

turn it off and put small reusable Ice packs in the fridge part and then when you get to camp put them in the freezer part. that way you won't have a gas explosion at a service station when you forget to turn of the pilot light. you will get a lot of turn it on while traveling from a lot of lucky people on this site Very alarmist thinking. Rv refers are designed to run on propane while on the road. The chance of An explosion because of them is slim. It isn’t an ice box of old days.

RE: No Service Address Changes on DirecTV

What's the big deal with being able to receive "locals?" I haven't used broadcast or sat tv in almost a decade, so I'm a bit out of practice. Other than emergency alert, which will come over radio and cell phone regardless, what does local news offer that regional / national news does not? Lots of folks watch “local” tv, that is, all the main networks. That means NBC, ABC, CBS, etc. So for many, that is a big deal.

RE: Safe-T-Alert Propane Gas Alarm

Yes, ours kept going off in our 2015 rig for no reason. The dealership replaced it, no more problemss. We were on the road, so they shipped it to us.

RE: recliner chairs for 5th wheel

We bought two Lazy Boy recliners at our local furniture store. Our particular salesman took us to chairs he said he has sold many times to rv owners. They are very comfortable. Actually we removed the junk theater seats too, converted the queen bed to a split king, and added a cabinet in the bedroom. We have renovated to fit our lifestyle.

RE: How much AC is needed?

From friends with 2 Acs, the positives are: Use the bedroom Ac when watching television since the living AC is so loud, and use living room AC at night so the bedroom is quiet. Have them run your living room AC and turn on your TV, you will notice that that can be a problem. If one goes out you have a backup. Ask someone who has had that happen. Most important: Never bank on what a manufacturer or salesman tells you when they are attempting to make a sale. Do more research and you will find that even a lot of the higher end rigs have difficulty in maintaining a comfortable temp when the outside temps reach near 100.. X2. Having 2 AC units is definitely a bonus for these reasons. On hot days we run both.

RE: Walmart changing some stores

With truckers needing to use rest areas and Walmart town centers going up, it's getting tough to find a place to catch a couple of hours of shut-eye.Yes, and those greedy RV parks, built exclusively for that purpose, have the unmitigated gall to charge money for the privilege. And why would anyone pay $65 for a couple of hours of shut-eye? If you buy,and want to live in an RV for any period of time it’s your responsibility to park it in a place designated for an rv, not a shopping center parking lot.and pay the going rate. And why would you want deal with complaints from your seasonal campers when I roll in at 11:00 at night and leave at oh-dark-thirty? I'll wager the office at you CG isn't even open then. RV parks are not built exclusively for a quick stop. My observations have been that they're built for seasonal residents and transients are tolerated as a necessary evil.

RE: Sun screens and awnings

We roll up the sunscreen with the electric awning when wind is expected, after detaching the tie downs. We also assist the roller manually, since the sunscreen is heavier than the awning, to help the motor.

RE: Flaking RV Leather sofa and chairs

We had theater seats and rocking recliners and they all flaked. We pulled them all out and found upholstered rockers that fit and are so much more comfortable, look nice and we have more room.

RE: When to quit.

We recently decided to stop towing, and “plant” our fiver here at the park we always enjoy for 4 months here in Florida.. The trips back and forth were no longer fun, but we enjoy camp life. So, it will be stored when we are gone, and brought out to our favorite site when we return, for a fee of course, but fair. My husband is 79 and has a bad shoulder and back, balance problems, etc., and I don’t want the stress of worry. Traded the truck for an SUV. A mobile RV tech is available for repairs we can’t do. I think it will work out better for us. Storage is cheaper here as well.

Kudos to Coachnet.

Once again we needed help with a tire problem. We had a blowout on 95 just outside of Florida today, we called Coachnet and they said help woul be there in 90 min. They arrived within the hour and changed the tire, with our spare. We will have other issues to deal with, (ruined fender, severed brake line) but we will continue on to our destination tomorrow, 130 miles, and hopefully the other tires will do the job. New tires before returning north. The body work and brake line is a complication however. Now to research tires! Plus, we had to squeeze the damaged tire in the truck bed with the hitch, and a bicycle that was on a rack over the spare now has to ride inside the coach. The fun never ends!,

RE: Terrible Service

The good news is, you had this happen somewhere that you could handle the flat yourself, even though it was inconvenient and something you shouldn't have had to do. Imagine if you were in a position you could not have taken care of it yourself. How would you be feeling then? Wow, how helpful. (Not)

RE: Pulling Vehicle for Durango 1500 30' 5th Wheel

We pulled our first Durango 1500 32’ fiver with a 250 and it was maxed out. Got airbags but it still was maxed out. Happier now with the 350 and a 35 footer.
