RE: Alliance 5th Wheels

This new RV has caught my attention, but like others, want to see how they are after new owners get them. I like their ideas and concepts and for right now seem to listen to people and make changes based on suggestions. We all want to see now what they are going to offer in terms of floor-plans and all but they (Alliance) are keeping their cards close to their chests. As this year goes forward, more models will be released. Big question tho is, are they going to stick to their guns and really be 100% customer focused, take time to manufacture RV's in a quality fashion and not rush them out the door or not? By the time the Hershey show is here, they should have more floorpans to see. Also, folks that have bought them already should as well be offering their take on them.. Funny, SWMBO texted me about the company. Looking at their products, it looks nice. Think they are missing the mark on internal storage, and not sure I'm ready for that much glass in an RV. Don't know if they were at Novi MI show, we were pretty focused on looking a just a couple of different models. I've heard the quality discussion before. Time will tell.

RE: Looking For a Second 5th Wheel

We were down to 2 units, and then redwood popped up on our radar. Specifically this unit.

RE: Trojan T-105

I went with the progressive dynamics Wildkat unit. Not quite 14.8, but does get to 14.4

RE: Difference between Yamaha & Honda Inverters

Wouldn't a bigger engine use more gas? Sort of. It's more about HP, which is why a twin turbo engine uses just as much gas as it's big brother V8, when towing, because it takes the same amount of HP.

RE: Trojan T-105

Sam's club has had a couple of sales on GC2 batteries. Are they Trojans, no, but at $90 each, a much better value. they should have a 1 day sale in the next month or so, and that's when the GC2 batteries go on sale.

RE: Just repllaced TV tires

gas mileage has a lot of things that impact it, to do a true measurement, need to calculate it over time. Did you go with the higher load defenders? I found it made a huge difference in trailer towing stability. So much so, I no longer bother tightening down the sway bar

RE: Difference between Yamaha & Honda Inverters

bigger generator cost more to operate, and are heavier. Compared to a small honda, which may or may not have enough umph to start a 15k Btu AC, it's still cheaper. Plus the added advantage of being able to run on 15a A/C line, and charge the battery.

but, if you're wanting to tow a 22000 lb tandem axle fiver with your new SRW you might be very disappointed to find out the 5000 lb pin weight of your fiver will cause the rear axle weight rating of your truck to be exceeded by 1200 lbs. 22,000 lb tandem axle 5er? Do they make such a thing?

So these NUMBERS really need to be understood and NOT taken at face value. So what is an acceptable percentage to you?

RE: How stupid can people be

Stupid yes... I sometimes wonder why I've lived. As the hair has gotten grayer, the propensity for taking risks has greatly diminished.

RE: "Death Wobble" updated, fixed

OP here, well it's fixed, so far so good. Looks like all they did was put a steering stabilizer on it, I'll get a pic today. I wasn't the one who picked it up and no paper work came with it which I thought was a little weird maybe Ford does things different when it's under warranty. No, you should have gotten paperwork with it

BUT too many think they can tow a 5er at their trucks "RATED" towing capacity. That simply is not the case in most applications. then why do the OEM's provide a rated capacity? What is an acceptable capacity percentage? 75%? 74%?

I didn't find the quality improved, and in fact it seemed to have slipped even more.

RE: Quest for the perfect 5th wheel

Their downside for the wife is they absolutely will not do a residential fridge. That is a deal breaker for her. We had several repeat bad experiences with a Norcold in a previous motorhome we owned. Good luck with your search. did you mean without a residential fridge?
