RE: Cleaning the outside of the 5'er do to oxidation

I've powerwashed a few RVs before waxing. Be careful around windows and slide seals.

RE: Tow hall mode

Assuming it's a Ford chassis, it's not necessary to use TH all the time. All it does is change the shift points, and it seems most effective at downshifting on deceleration. I use it to keep the RPMs in the sweet spot. If you're pulling a toad, you might use it more.

RE: 5er accidents

I'm sorry, well, not really. If you don't know its back there, something's wrong. I can say my 10,000lb boat and trailer, on the hitch receiver, compared to my 15,000lb FW on a FW hitch, do tow differently, but I always know they are there. People can get in trouble easily from a lack of skill, speed, poor maintenance, overloading, unseen road hazards, other stoopid drivers, and bad weather (sometimes seems like all the above). My only advice is to match tow vehicles to the load, keep speed reasonable, keep head on a swivel and keep up with maintenance.

RE: Tire Failure

I am an Anti-Chinese tire person. How much evidence does one need to understand the problem? Me too, but the OP needed to get back on the road and had no other choice.

RE: looking to buying a new class A we have questions ???

Covid has nothing to do with shoddy work IMHO. RVs mfgrs. have been building less that acceptable units for years before now.

RE: Thoughts on Lance Nose Cap Filon Replacement

Use 1/8" luan plywood, kerfing on the backside as needed.

RE: Absorption vs. Residential refrigerator

We love our residential, BUT, we rarely boondock. My understanding is you need a lot of solar, and possibly a BU generator, to keep your batteries happy

RE: Mechanics backed up for weeks all over?

Yes, and even pre-Covid.

RE: 50 to 30 amp dog bone

Do it frequently, no problem.

RE: How fast do you drive with camper on? .

I've had every class of RV, except a TC. For what it's worth, my experience is that 65mph seems to be the most comfortable max for me, whether it's towed or motorized, and I can't imagine a TC would be any different.

RE: HOW do I do this?

Like Valhalla360 stated, domicile can be difficult to establish and, as you apparently know, NY does not let go easily. If you don't plan on being in NY more that 180 days each year, there's nothing wrong with establishing domicile elsewhere. Keep in mind owning real estate, even in NY, does not by itself make one a resident at that location. A good source is the Escapees site and forums, and they have a well-established mailing service for those who choose SD, TX, or FL. As a FL resident, I can tell you the state is well-prepared to handle non full-time residents, what with the big numbers of snowbirds and RV'ers. It might even be worth a trip to FL to sell the existing RV and purchase new in FL, and establish domicile at the same time.

RE: Just experienced our first Non-refundable campground

You knew the cancellation policy up front. You chose to cancel, your loss.

RE: Tire Pressure Q

There's nothing wrong with using max 80psi for your E-rated tires. Set when cold, i.e., not driven on. All tires with get hotter and psi will go up as driven. No worries as that's factored in by tire engineers. The hottest I've ever seen my FW tires is 135 on a hot summer day. If you choose to go with F or G-rated tires, you'd still be limited by your axle rating, and you should first determine if your wheels can take 110psi.

RE: Wastewater Tote & Fresh Water Containers - Do you use them?

We rarely boondock, but having supply and discharge containers is much better than having to break camp, IMHO. We bungie the empty sewer tote to the rear ladder.

RE: Keystone Montana 5er

RV dealers, in general, do not want to work on new units they didn't sell. It's BS, IMHO, but thats the way it is. I recommend your friends contact Keystone directly, plead their case, and ask for authorization to get repairs, even by mobile services.

RE: Must I have a toad with a 27' Class C?

We had a toad when we had a 27' Class C. Did not like to break camp to do day trips, and a 27' is difficult to park.

RE: satellite on fiver

My fiver is supposedly 13'5" and the only overpasses I've found lower were in the NE, particularly NY, but I'm sure there're lower in other states, too. You really need to take a measurement and add the height of the proposed satellite to see where you will be.

RE: Alternatives for Michelin XPS Ribs?

For that light weight FW, you should look at GY Endurance. Sailun or another G-rated tire would be overkill, IMHO. I've seen lots of reports of Maxxis failures.

RE: Tires and their pressures

As I understand it, the truck mfgr. sets the tire pressure to the maximum load the rear axle can carry, which is not always the max psi set by the tire mfgr. I don't think your FW has more than a 2900lb pin weight, so 75psi on an E-rated tire (without looking at a load chart) is probably about right.
