RE: Bedding in overhead beds in T/C

Sleeping bags and blankets. It is what I use at home. I often use a top sheet but not folded in, loose under the blanket.

RE: Ellison Provincial Park in the Okanagan valley of BC. PICS

If I could get in I would have moved to eastern BC already.

RE: Extended trip planning

After 60 years of road trips habits are hard to change. I only make reservations under duress or one day ahead. I prefer the off season for long trips and move when I feel like it. The idea of a tight schedule and having to be somewhere has no appeal at all. In the West there is always some public land around. It allows great freedom, but people from the East take time to adjust to it. Recently it seems there are no refunds at a lot of RV parks. That makes them unattractive to me except for filling and emptying tanks, powering up and taking a shower and washing clothes.

RE: Cooking surfaces and tools, What's your favorite to use!

Dutch ovens. They can cook anything. Sometimes I bring a small charcoal grill. Light and easy to pack around. Both styles take some time to put a good fire together and cook slowly. It is the right pace for camping. Sometimes in spring and fall I camp near town and invite friends to dinner.

RE: Decal replacement

I have removed some but never wanted to replace them.

RE: mb diesel oil mistake

No problema. I was talking with a Sprinter van owner recently in a campground with his hood up. He had the Mercedes diesel. I asked him where the DEF fill was. He said "what is DEF?" Time to head for town and buy some DEF. He was thankful.

RE: Best way to travel the Pacific Coast

Slow and tedious but dramatic and fun. You need a month.

RE: Butt splice connector to join 10 gauge to 12 gauge wire?

Or twist the wires together with lineman's and use a red wire nut.

RE: Fuel consumption too high?

Yes. A Ford Ranger dinky pick-up gets about the same mileage as a one ton diesel.

RE: Is it common to remove your truck camper at your camp spot?

I see it once in awhile. It is hard to find a level spot when boondocking. Even a lot of campgrounds have very unlevel pads.

RE: Outdoor camp oven

For people who are not very strong, there are aluminum Dutch Ovens. Smaller ones are easier to handle.

RE: Campground Fun Zones

Traditionally lakes, and hiking trails were fun zones for kids. Going out with Dad in twilight to see the game animals. Getting up early to go fishing. The smell of outboard motor oil in the morning on a lake still gets to me. I have no recollections of camping with trampolines or amusement rides. None of that stuff. We could find that at home. It was and still is being in nature, seeing the critters that is the big attraction.

RE: Outdoor camp oven

Cast iron Dutch Oven will cook anything. I have cooked for up to 45 people using several of them and no outside help.

RE: Modifications

New Pioneer stereo. New table configuration. Forest River Microlight is a great trailer. Best mods were to Ford 7.3 liter diesel. New AFE air cleaner. Four inch exhaust from engine to tailpipe. SCT tuner.

RE: Oil changes with synthetic

Synthetic oil is a great idea for engines that don't get used much. That oil can go for a year no problem, and actually longer.

RE: Alaska 2022??

The Alaska State Ferry usually has a naturalist on board. You can get a state room and eat in different restaurants. The people traveling are much more interesting than tourists on cruise ships. For some extra fees you can get off and get back on along the route. You can make the trip as long as you want.

RE: Alaska 2022??

grit dog, If you have never been on a cruise, how can you compare these two types of trips? If you have never been on the ferry how do you know it is "basically transportation?" People see Alaska all different kinds of ways. The ferry stops at little towns the cruise could never dock at. If people are worried about crowds in Alaska, they need to change their itineraries.

RE: Yellowstone second thoughts.

Maybe you can go to Ystone a little earlier. Spring is the time to see the babies. I especially like the little red bison calves jetting all over the place.

RE: Alaska 2022??

Alaskan ferry is a good option. No need to bring a vehicle. Get a state room. Much better than a cruise ship. You get to stop in the smaller towns and ride with a lot of Alaskans. If you think fuel costs a lot where you live, wait until you get to the remote bush.

RE: Toyota Tundra vs Ford F150 Hybrid Fuel Economy Tests

Who buys a p/u for it's fuel economy? People that buy diesels.
