RE: Cost of engine replacement or rebuild

I had a 7.4L carbureted rebuilt in 2013 (yeah, I know). It cost me right at $5K for parts and labor. FWIW

RE: Need advice on spacer between camper and truck bed?

In my 2001 F350 I used one sheet of 4'X8'X2" solid core foam, sprayed both sides with rubber bed liner and used it for 3 years without problems. Cost was under $100 and it was nice and light. I stored it on the garage floor under the camper when camper was off the truck.

RE: One way valve on hot water in shower

I used one of these between the hot water pipe and the hot faucet, and then I added one of these at the base of the shower head hose. No more icy or scalding water when taking a Navy shower in the TT. Pretty easy install.

RE: Cell phone signal Booster ?

Was there sufficient bandwidth? Other campers also trying also trying to use their phones for pictures, posts, talking, texting, surfing, streaming etc.?
Not sure how I can measure that. I was using my cell service through the phone and not campground wifi.
LennyHere's a tool I like: Speedtest.net I use a Weboost, and it has been a game changer. I used to try to pick up local stations with an OTA TV antenna. Now we can usually find enough signal to stream from our Tablo or Plex server via the cell phone. As someone else posted, if there isn't enough bandwidth, you can't manufacture it, but a signal booster often will let you take advantage of what signal there is.

RE: What's a good battery level monitor?

I have this one, and it does everything I need. I installed it with a DPDT switch so I can switch between reading during charging and during discharging.

RE: Not Utilizing RV Parks or Boondocking

The only time we ever did this was when our 2001 F350 V10 spit out a spark plug on New Years Day. By the time we got towed and repaired, it was well after dark; we were in an unfamiliar area; and we were cold. Pulled into a motel with truck and TC and had a hot shower and a hot meal in the restaurant.

RE: Battery Monitor Install

I put one of these in a year ago. It's nice to have more complete information. Installation was pretty easy. I recommend one, especially if you dry camp.

RE: 1978 Chevy Itasca for $4800

Look for any signs of water intrusion, i.e., stains on the ceiling, especially in the cabover area. Look inside all the cabinets too, with a good flashlight. Check the entire floor area for soft spots. Check inside base cabinets, especially those with sinks for signs of rot, mildew, etc. Check all the exterior seams to see if any of them are open. Since you are new to RVs, you may want to consider hiring a mobile RV tech to look at the coach and tell you what needs attention. Spending a couple hundred to save making a $4,800 mistake might just be a good investment.

RE: travel trailer towing difficulty

When I bought my 25' trailer, the dealer said I wouldn't need WD with my F350. OTOH, my wife made me trade the one ton for a half ton, because she wouldn't drive the one ton. So, I never found out if the dealer was correct.

RE: Big truck dealer in Idaho?

I've bought several pickups and SUVs through vehixbuyers.com. Syd Dorn is an auto broker in Portland. He is very honest and reliable. He and his family have done much to change the laws in Oregon protecting consumers in the auto market. He can find you the vehicle you want anywhere in the country, usually within 48 hours. He does the negotiating; all you do is the test drive and sign the papers on the one you choose. DW and I and our family won't "shop" anywhere else. NOTE: I don't work for or get anything by referring people to Syd. I just hate the car buying process, but Syd has taken all the pain out of it. Good luck in your search.

RE: Pet Peeves long road trip

#1 - merging is a lost art. I'm doing the speed limit in the right lane, cars passing me regularly, and one car will be coming onto the interstate from an on ramp. They get a quarter mile to decide whether to pass me up or tuck in behind. I can't go anywhere! Ultimately, they ride up right beside me expecting me to magically let them in. I can't!!My daughter cracks me up. When this happens to her, she yells at the other guy, "It's called 'merge.' Look it up!"
