Central Michigan campground this weekend FHU

Hi! We usually camp at state campgrounds, so could use a little help. We’re looking for a campground with FHU for this weekend. We need to dump our tanks, and it’s so late in the season that we’re hoping to find a place within an hour of Lansing. We drive a 30-foot Class C. There are two adults and a teen, plus a dog. Thanks!

RE: Dewinterizing issue

To the OP, I am still learning how to do all of this. I often don’t even know what anything is called, so directions with proper terminology aren’t always useful. Ha! I had a similar issue. Here are some things to check. This said, I am not familiar with your particular motorhome, but I do have a class C. There should be a couple of drains under your unit. Mine are blue plastic. They look like long straws. One has (or should have) a screw-on cap. If you think about where those tubes come from, look in one of your outside compartments on top of the drains (tubes). My motorhome has a lever that I can turn up or sideways. It is attached to one of the tubes. When it is turned sideways (or perpendicular), that blocks the flow of water from the fresh water tank. If it’s turned up and down (parallel) to the tubes, it lets the water out (drains the tanks). Something else to check is whether the anode (it’s a metal rod that gets screwed into the hot water heater) is not screwed on. Depending on whether they bypassed the hot water heater when they winterized or not, water may be pouring out of your water heater if the anode is not in properly. Hope that helps!

RE: Charging a marine battery

Thank you! We also have the battery in a MinnKota trolling motor power center. I connected the battery to that, then clipped the charger clips to the posts on the power center. Double checking that that makes sense. First timers here!

Charging a marine battery

Hello, everyone. We fish from an Old Town canoe and recently got a deep cycle Expert Power battery for a small Minnkota motor. I went to Advance Auto Parts to pick up a charger and they sold me a CarQuest battery charger/maintainer. It’s 3 amps, which i know means it’ll charge slowly. But I like that it has the maintainer feature. How do I make sure I got the right kind of charger? Thanks!

RE: Welcome tips/input on trip to Lake Gogebic State Park

Thanks again. El husbando camped and fished at Sylvania when he was a kid; we didn't realize it was so close to Lake Gogebic! We're definitely taking the canoe there. I will also check out the State Line trail.

RE: Welcome tips/input on trip to Lake Gogebic State Park

YES, the U.P. is a lot bigger than most realize and very spread out places with only around 300,000 population compared to the L.P. which has 9,650,000 population with 90+% of them living in the southern half of the L.P. Michigan has thousands of campgrounds with a total of over 300,000 campsites per the DNR and has more than 11,000 inland lakes larger than 5 acres in size and over 3,200 miles of Great Lakes shorelines on 4 of the 5 Great Lakes. Bet you can't guess why we won't ever move away and have lived here on the Lake Michigan Lakeshore so happily for all of our 77+ years. Get tips, thanks! We’ve camped at Indian Lakes and loved it. Great fishing st nearby Dodge Lake, even from shore.

Yeah, distances in the UP are different than down here, no? Loving all of the tips and suggestions. Keep ‘em coming. Thanks!

RE: Welcome tips/input on trip to Lake Gogebic State Park

Aah. That's what we suspected. We're spoiled by the Deer Park store near Muskallonge Lake State Park because it's ridiculously well-stocked and has laundry facilities. Thanks!

Welcome tips/input on trip to Lake Gogebic State Park

We usually spend at least a week at Muskallonge Lake State Park, north of Newberry, but couldn't get in this year, so we're heading to Lake Gogebic State Park. Welcome info on the following: * Nearby smaller lakes where we can fish from a canoe * Nearby grocery store(s) and a place to do laundry * Tips on nearby trails for running/hiking * Places for day trips Thanks!
