RE: Any one else giving up snow birding due to the covid

Early Nov, we dropped off the RV at our lot in Steinhatchee, FL and came back to the NC High Country for the holidays. Head back to FL for lots of fishing the first week of January. No way I'm staying in this dreary climate all winter!!

RE: A traffic mess in Moab

We were there 10-20 until 10-25. We drove up/down 191 thru the construction 6 times at various times of day. Never more than a 15 minute delay. The construction appears to be no where near completion.

RE: Albuquerque to Tallahassee

I would avoid the I-10 stretch between I-49 and Baton Rouge. Major construction on the Lafayette end and east bound is a problem at Baton Rouge except on weekend early mornings. Would Hwy 190 E over to I-12 a good road to miss the construction?

Albuquerque to Tallahassee

MapQuest show the quickest route going I-40 to Hwy 287 into Dallas then to Jackson MS on I-20. Then down Hwy 49 and Hwy 98 to Mobile (I-10). Anyone have an opinion on the overall route and especially Hwys 49 & 98 in MS/AL? Thanks

RE: A Primer on Moab

4runnerguy...not doubting what you saw but we are currently in Moab @ OK RV Park....been here 3 days. We did get to Arches around 8 a.m. both days and sailed right thru. Coming out between 2 & 4 there was a line of about 8 autos but it looked like the normal backup when people pay to get in. The road construction is a pain but it didn't take us more than 15-20 minutes (3 times) to get from where the construction begins then into town where the construction ends. Snow is predicted for Monday and temps are dropping, so I'm guessing that the traffic volume will start dying down a little.

RE: Michelin Defender LTX Discontinued ??

Discount Tire just called and they can not get the Defender. They tell me that the Agilis CrossClimate is what Michelin is recommending for tow vehicles. Also, Discount says that their experience is that they get 10-20k miles better tread wear. It is a 10 ply with same load/speed rating as the Defender. I've always had great success with Michelin. Might give them a try. https://www.michelinman.com/tires/cross-climate/agilis-crossclimate.html

RE: Michelin Defender LTX Discontinued ??

wonder how old the date code will be? I put 23k-25k on them annually, so the tread will wear out before age is an issue.

Michelin Defender LTX Discontinued ??

Has this been discussed? My Defenders are down to the wear indicator with about 50k on them. Called a dealer in Moab and they tell me that the Defender can no longer be ordered. Called Discount Tire in Sedona (where we will be in a week) and they can bring them in from TX, so I ordered 4. Salesman said he heard rumors about them being discontinued but no official word from their corporate. What have you guys heard/read?

Tire Inflation - What RU Using

My small tire pump is really struggling to get tires to 80 psi. Also, the cord won't reach from truck to rear tires. What are you using?

RE: Colorado - Wyoming - Montana - Idaho

Great info!!! We can move the trip 3-4 weeks later so that we are there mid-August until Mid-October. 8 weeks is about our max plus 5-6 days each way. We are thinking that we might just do 2 states (MT & WY) in 2021. I obviously have a lot of research to do! Thanks again!!!

RE: Colorado - Wyoming - Montana - Idaho

DW and I are considering CO, MO, WY or ID. Missouri or Montana? :) Thanks, I fixed it.

Colorado - Wyoming - Montana - Idaho

We are already thinking about next years trip. DW and I are considering CO, MT, WY or ID. We are currently dong Utah's Mighty 5. Love it but in addition to great scenery we want to see some activities next year (assuming things open back up) like rodeos, festivals, Gathering of Nations..... I have been told that mid-July thru August is the best time due to weather for 7 weeks in those states. Do you agree? We will greatly appreciate any/all suggestions!!

RE: Utah national Parks

Also on a similar trip now....currently in Escalante. We came here on I-40 from NC. Our stops have been: - Monument Valley 3 nights (don't miss Valley of The Gods) - Lake Powell 3 nights (if you rent a boat or PWC go into Labyrinth Canyon) - N Rim Grand Canyon 3 nights (wish we had done 4) - Zion NP 5 nights (get shuttle passes 4-6 months in advance, impossible to get when you are here...also bring a bike if you ride) - Escalante Grand Staircase NM 4 nights (love this place...best so far. Don't miss Lower Calf Creek Water Fall) - Capital Reef - Torrey 4 nights - Moab - Arches and Canyonlands NP 4 nights (5 would have been better to do both) - Bluff, UT - Canyons of The Ancients NM Then down to Sedona for a week. This is a good time of year IMO because it is not frying pan hot! All campgrounds have been full. We made reservations last February and there were only a few spots left at most parks.

RE: Zion to Escalante - UPDATE

UPDATE: For anyone else who may be going from Zion to Escalante. We took Hwy 17 from Virgin over to I-15N....then Hwy 20E to Hwy 89S. Hwy 20 is by far one of the best roads that we have been on since leaving NC, Both the ascent and decent had a passing lane the entire time, the pavement is in VG condition and it's an easy drive. Not as scenic as Hwy 9 but 10x easier driving!!

RE: Zion to Escalante - UPDATE

Why can't you use the tunnel?? I believe the max length is 50 feet which you should be under while hooked up. You would have to pay the $15 fee for large vehicles but that would be better than going around plus if you don't go through the tunnel you miss some pretty unusual landscape east of the tunnel. We drove it yesterday. True that it is a beautiful drive but no way I'm pulling on that drive.

Zion to Escalante - UPDATE

We will be leaving Zion and heading over to Escalante in a few days. We are pulling a 34' 5th wheel. I know that we can not use Hwy 9 via the tunnel. Is backtracking on 9 to I-15N to 20W to 89S to 12E into Escalante the easiest route? Hwys 14 & 17 are shorter, but uncertain about taking a 5th on those roads?

TOGO Power Generator 1000w

I have been given a TOGO Power generator, 1000 max watt. Not costing me a thing but have no idea what 1000w can do. I have my regular house battery which is an Interstate SRM24 and carry a spare batt that I take off of my boat which is about the same size. My Honda 2000 died a few years ago, so I don't currently have a generator. Is it even worth carrying in the bed of my truck (I do have room) while on long trips? Refrig, furnace and w/h are propane so need 12v to operate.
