RE: Anyone rent out their camper?

I have rental houses. I would set fire to my camper before I would rent it out. It is unbelievable wha people do to rental property. yup...we tried being landlords once and got burned..badly. never again and we wouldn't loan our MH to anyone...period.

RE: Anyone rent out their camper?

To me the idea seems crazy, but there is a lady that my wife works with that rents out her camper through one of those rental places. Apparently, she told my wife that with their 24ft bumper pull camper, on average they make around $2,000 a month by renting it out to people. I’m sure there are extra insurance fees, repairs, and other things that come out of your profit. I don’t think I could ever be ok with strangers towing my camper behind their vehicle, which may or may not be rated to tow it, by someone who may or may not have ever towed anything before, and could care less about beating it up and damaging it. It just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Does anyone have personal experience it this? Is it as bad as it sounds? There are some many little things I have to do with my camper as far as towing it, setting it up, using the heater/fridge/stove/oven…..having someone with no experience just hook up to it at take off down the road would scare the hell out of me. ask her how many and what types of repairs they've had to make to their rented RV. if the answer is 'none' then her honesty comes into question.

RE: What can you expect off MSRP?

personally, given the high demand and thru-the-roof sales figures for all RVs i wouldn't expect much if any. have you test driven either?

RE: Camco sewer lugs out of spec? An easy fix but very odd

This why it's very important to RETURN defective items. It has zero affect on the jack-leg overseas manufacturer cause the seller just fills our ladfills with the ****. Many of the shipping containers themselves are left here because it costs too much to return an empty container. Returns have only a little affect on the retailer (cause they bought a container load at pennies on the dollar for what we pay them at retail. But i do feel like a patriot when I return the junk to them. We return soooo much stuff we must be on all the blacklists. Amazon 8-9 times last month, Ebay twice today, Walmart countless times. Home Depot, Lowes, Target, etc etc. If they sell chinese, we have returned it. If they wont take it back we call the credit card company. But I NEVER just keep it and take the loss. wow! unlucky? i've returned items bought online and in the store maybe 3-times in the last couple of years and an additional once or twice for an exchange.

RE: Camco sewer lugs out of spec? An easy fix but very odd

I just got one of these little fixtures: https://i.imgur.com/ScVCzlzl.jpg "border=0" https://i.imgur.com/m3zZPvb.pngClick For Full-Size Image. I was surprised that the lugs, those nubs that slip into the bayonet fitting, were out of spec -- just a fraction of a millimeter too fat. The lugs on all my other sewer hardware (Valterra and Rhino) fit just fine into the various bayonet items that I own. But the Camco didn't. I took a calipers (caliper singular??) and measured the lugs -- sure enough, the Camcos were wider than all of the others. Fortunately, the fix was easy -- I used a flat file to reduce the circumference of the four lugs. It took about a half hour of filing, and trying the fit, and filing some more. Eventually, it worked just fine. But here are my questions (and you knew they were coming) -- aren't these items designed and manufactured to be interchangeable? Isn't anyone in China (where this was made) in charge of quality control? Don't they test these items out before they are mass-produced? This is emphatically NOT a China rant -- whether we like it or not, they are the world's manufacturer for the foreseeable future. Instead, this is about the company's puzzling failure to act in its own self-interest -- isn't it cheaper to do it right the first time, rather than to wait for a wave of consumer complaints?? This is not rocket science. i ran into a similar problem a few months back. i wanted to replace the left-hand threaded wheel studs on my '46 Willys with right-hand studs. i found them at a parts supply company listed for my vehicle so i ordered 10. when they arrived they would not fit.. .they were too short and too fat. i contacted the company and reported the problem but their response was that i had the correct parts. even photographs of micrometer measurements of the old and new studs were rejected. they did accept the return for refund but it was a strange experience. my shop did find the correct RH studs at a local wholesale auto parts warehouse.

RE: Mail Forwarding Cost. Virtual Mail vs Priority Mail

All of the important info that I used to have mailed to me, I switched over to electronic format - Bank statements, credit card statements, cell phone bill, vehicle insurance, and a plethora of other things I can't remember at the moment. Doing the above could help reduce the amount of mail that you get forwarded to you. THe only thing I can think of at the moment that requires some sort of physical address is vehicle registration, so if I were to hit the road and sell my house, I'd still need some sort of "address" for registration of the vehicles; meaning I can't totally go stealth and not have some sort of "address" to receive mail at. while we're not fulltime our mail forwarximg service can provide a physical address for vehciel and driver's license renewals. they can also assist with south dakota residency. i suspect other mail services can do the same for those who FT.

RE: Looking for portable electric space heater for rv!

I have a 34’ class A motor home with its built in gas heater. running on propane gas. I’m looking for a good space heater to place on the floor, electric that I could place near me only when I’m awake and watching tv. Something compact, electric and capable of heating the area around us. any big box store will have them. we use two that have multiple heat settings along with a fan that moves the air. max wattage will be 1500.

RE: Steering wheel vibration

while that might not be the case all the time it did happen to me one day in the summer of 2019. i was returning home from an errand in our '46 Willys CJ2A. each time i slowed or stopped i felt a vibration from the right front. it didn't happen while accelerating but rather than head home i went to the garage that does all my work. the service mgr is a buddy so he hopped in and we took a drive around the block to show him what was happening. as i slowed to turn back into the shop's driiveway, this happened... https://i.imgur.com/ISEN2xfl.jpg the resulting force nearly tossed us out of the vehicle. we were able to hang on only because we were doing < 5mph. had i not diverted to the garage it might have happened while i was running ~40mph and i might not have been able to hang on. oh...the problem was a broken cotter pin, likely original to the vehicle. i had them all replaced and iinspected each year. Do you ever have any concerns about your bottom side sitting on top of the fuel tank? Shhhhh, don't tell Ralph Nader. GRIN. Richard lol. i don't smoke. when my shop was disassembling it for restoration we found the gas tank was riddled with numerous small pinholes likely from rust. my sense of smell is poor so i was glad i didn't smoke,

RE: Steering wheel vibration

Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers, always insisted that a vibrating steering wheel on any vehicle required immediate investigation, and if you HAD to drive it in to the shop, do so no faster than 30 mph, because some of the possible causes could result in a wheel falling off. Besides those causes mentioned above, add ball joints about to separate and loose/broken lug nuts. while that might not be the case all the time it did happen to me one day in the summer of 2019. i was returning home from an errand in our '46 Willys CJ2A. each time i slowed or stopped i felt a vibration from the right front. it didn't happen while accelerating but rather than head home i went to the garage that does all my work. the service mgr is a buddy so he hopped in and we took a drive around the block to show him what was happening. as i slowed to turn back into the shop's driiveway, this happened... https://i.imgur.com/ISEN2xfl.jpg the resulting force nearly tossed us out of the vehicle. we were able to hang on only because we were doing < 5mph. had i not diverted to the garage it might have happened while i was running ~40mph and i might not have been able to hang on. oh...the problem was a broken cotter pin, likely original to the vehicle. i had them all replaced and iinspected each year.

RE: Steering wheel vibration

There are many things that can cause a steering wheel vibration. I doubt that it is common with ALL F53 chassis RV's. Wheel out of round, wheel out of balance, loose wheel bearing, bad shock, loose/worn suspension components, alignment, loose steering box, etc. +1. we’re on our second F53. no steering whl vibration on either.

RE: Mail Forwarding Cost. Virtual Mail vs Priority Mail

not sure what you mean by virtual mail but if your forwarder allows you to pick and choose which mail they forward you might want to create an account with the US Post office and then sign up for their INFORMED DELIVERY SERVICE (free). you'll get a daily e-mail showing the front of the envelopes that have been processed for delivery that day. USPS Informed Delivery My understanding is that the Informed Delivery Service cannot be used for a commercial address such as a CMRA. Do you know of anyone that's able to use it with a CMRA account? CMRA? CMRA = Commercial Mail Receiving Agency JimR ok, well all i can tell you is our experience. we used America's Mailbox last winter. all of our mail was forwarded to them and all of that mail showed up on the daily USPS Informed Delivery e-nail. that's how i kept track of what should be in our weekly delivery of mail. but because most of our commercial mail had been switched to e-mail the amount of postal mail we received each week was small. it always fit in one of those small plastic envelopes. minimal cost. rk911 When you say forwarded to Americas Mailbox you are saying that the post office had a forwarding address and then forwarded your mail to Americas Mailbox? That would make sense but I have my mail sent to Dakota Post directly and do not think that the Informed Delivery would work but will check on that. Thank You JimR that's riight, Jim. we are snowbirds, not full-timers. hope it works out for you.
