RE: Goodbye China Bombs, Hello Made In The USA

9,000lb trailer with load range D tires which came on the trailer. If you're insinuating the tires are 7-8 years old, I wouldn't necessarily blame the tires.... I agree with Grit. If these were still the original tires as you’re referring to them as, they probably should have been replaced 3-4 years ago. It doesn’t matter who the manufacturer is/was, they’re past their prime. I had two made in the USA Goodyears blow that were only 3-4 years old. Got me to replace the other two real quick.

RE: No battery power

Without digging into it yet, my guess is that there is indeed corrosion in there. Our in-line fuse is supposed to have a cover on it, but that was connected by a little rubber cover which has been gone for years. So when I pull the fuse in between trips, that fuse “box” is exposed to the elements. I’m assuming I can find a replacement fuse box to upgrade that and splice it in?

RE: No battery power

Did you by chance turn your battery disconnect switch? Good thought, but we don’t have a battery disconnect switch. We physically pull the fuse, and the fuse is still good.

No battery power

We have a 2011 Jayco X213 that has had battery power issues intermittently since it was new. Rarely do we boondock, but even without, we run the fridge while on the road and turn lights on, water pump, etc. Last summer we stayed in NF campgrounds on battery and had no issues. Tonight=no power whatsoever. The battery is fine and charged. But there’s no power at all, not even from the truck which I would think we would have even if there was a weak battery. It has to be a wiring issue somehow, and everything works fine on shore power. Thoughts? There was power when we initially took it out of the shed this spring. And I’ve seen weak lights at times, but now nothing at all. Everything looks connected from what I can see, but I wonder if somewhere there’s a loose connection?

Colter Bay generator use

I’ve been looking on the NPS’s website but am not finding it - does anyone have a list of the loops in Colter Bay campground (not RV park) in Grand Teton NP that are generator friendly? I was perusing recreation.gov looking at campsites and noticed WAY at the bottom of the particular site I was looking at that it was in a non-generator loop. Well, there’s lots of loops. I could look individually but… I’d hate to reserve a site only to find out when we get there that we couldn’t use our generator.

RE: A tale of two trailers, or prices are thru the roof.

yeah, we missed the boat on this last year, but our timing wasn't right and we needed a new TV up front. Timed the TV purchase great, but now our TT is a 2011 and it would be nice to replace it with something bigger for our family. So June 2020 we visited our local dealer and looked at a Heartland NorthTrail 24BHS. I believe the dealer had it listed at $24,995 or so, but we didn't like how it was constructed and instead looked at the better built Riverside RV Intrepid next to it for the same price or less, but couldn't swing it at that time. Today I was on Camping World's website looking at their "Clearance Sale" and I see a 2021 24BHS, same as the 2020 we looked at, listed at $34,732. I scroll down just a few units more and see a 2022 for $41,912! Now come on, there's no way they've appreciated over $7K from model year to model year, let alone the same amount over the prior year. Yes, I read all of the previous posts and I agree with you, just venting. It's just frustrating when you want to upgrade your 10 year old unit and really can't. I think I'll take it to the dealer next spring and drop a grand+ in maintenance and call it good enough for another few years hopefully.

RE: Towing with a 2022 Ford 150 3.5 EcoBoost

I can give you some real life experience with a 2020. Ours is rated for 12,500# with the 3.55 and the 20s, payload of about 1,750lbs. We towed our 5,500# Jayco X213 previously with a Chevrolet Avalanche with the 5.3L V8 rated for 8000lbs. While it moved it out nicely, the biggest issue I had was always a lack of power in the mountains and good pulls. The F-150 laughs at that. First trip was to northern Pennsylvania where it rolled up and down, left and right and one couldn't get a rolling start on anything in the backwoods. 45mph roads that were super curvy, and I'm glad we had the 10-speed tranny to handle it. Second big trip was to Montana in July/August. The biggest pass we went over was west of Helena and it capped out about 6,700ft. By the time I got to the top she was just getting warmed up - tranny read 217º while cruising solidly just under 50mph. It had plenty of power had I wanted to push it. Obviously not Colorado passes, I anxiously await those tests, but I was pleased it handled it as it did in the heat. For reference the prior year in Colorado our Avalanche pushed 245º on the tranny and struggled to maintain 45mph. Average mileage is 9.5-10mpg I would say. I've seen somebody say you either have Eco or you have Boost. My biggest gripe is the engine braking on the downhill. I'm an early manual downshifter, and it does not hold back well at all. But I've learned how to drive it accordingly. Overall I LOVE this truck. I'm not in the camp that says you need a 3/4 ton truck, especially not for this size load. Our next trailer will be in the 8,000lb range and I feel comfortable that it will handle it just fine.
