RE: Driver's License for over 26,001 lbs.

It's amazing how States make a simple question so hard to get the correct answer. In my State you have to read past the 1st page of the CDL handbook, no mention in non CDL handbook. Page one says personal RVs are exempt , just need a regular Class C. The GOTCHA is a few pages in , " Exceptions to the Excemptions " and only here does it explain the requirement for a non-CDL class A or B for driving /towing over 26001 lbs. Why do States confuse the question ? I have the Tx non-CDL classA and have only know of one person who posted a rant on Jayco forums a few years back about getting a ticket for incorrect license . I would bet over half the heavy RV's are driven useing the standard DL issued by States that require the heavier class of DL.

I also have an Andersen. I have seen on these and other pages anecdotal accounts of issues with it, but have never seen a picture to show what exactly is going on. Except for one that I recall which is shown over and over again to illustrate the many problems with the Andersen. If you or anyone else can post some shots, I would love to see them. I have travelled thousands of miles pulling a 14,000 lb trailer over some pretty rough roads and have no issues at all. Please post what you have. Some say that because it is aluminum, it is not all that strong and must be dangerous. Seems like it can be used structurally in aircraft, and also as the outer skin which is only 2-3 mm thick. I imagine it would be scary for some people if they knew that 2mm of aluminum was the only thing between them and certain death while travelling over 500 mph and 30,000 feet in the air. And then slamming down onto a runway in a 300 ton aircraft at 180 mph. Gives me the shivers. No issues with the Andersen after those thousands of miles, and no issues with flying after those hundreds of thousands of miles. Pictures please. ?? Do a search as I've posted my pics a couple times. I don't have my computer set up now as we are living in our 5er while building a new house. As to aircraft structure , the skin, spars , bulkheads do wear . I've spent a lot of $ keeping planes flying so have some experience as well as Andersen time. The original AUH used lighter tubeing than later versions along with adding some reinforcement . I am and will continue to be very unhappy with that hitch. Friends don't let friends use an AUH, imho.

Now that I have an Airsafe air ride hitch, I have no inclination to ever use any other style & the Trailer savers are excellent . As for an Andersen, I am a former user. I've bent 2 and will not ride in a truck towing with one of the aluminum ones. The steel version which attaches to standard rails is maybe ok

We get on 412 at Fayetteville/Springdale towing our 5er only to Hwy 21 east of Huntsville . We do drive 412 on past Harrison and I see no problems if I was towing.

If you found an AC tech who was good there'd be no problem for them cutting out the compressor, adding in valves to hook their line set to, and replacing the compressor with a similar size and rating unit. The problem is that by the time you pay for the compressor and a half day of labor you're probably 80-90% of the way to a new unit. 1st , without an actual diagnosis no one knows WHY the unit doesn't cool. Yes, oil on refrigerant lines most times do indicate a refrigerant leak but we don't know . . If the compressor is good then the unit is repairable unless you have a leak in one of the coils. I have fixed many a leaking coil but the small coils on these after you cut back fins you just lose too much capacity, imho.

I've had the Mohs procedure a few times, no biggie. They cut out some of it, check the surrounding area immediately, and remove it all, with frequent checks to make sure they get it all. Melanoma is the bad boy, it can metastasize while the small cell skin cancer rarely does. I'm healing up now from a spot on my nose that was cut out and a spot on my arm they lazered off. Wasn't a big deal on either one but my nose healed quick & the laser spot is slow healing. I too have worked outdoors most of my life & this the 1st problem & Im 73. My Brother wasn't so lucky. Malenoma in 1976 & was later told he was cured. In 1999 it came back as a tumor on his intestine & he passed very quickly from the 2nd bout.

We keep our AC on about 80 when not useing. It's going to hit 100 by Tuesday here in NE Tx.

Well, I bought it. 25k with the Binkley style head. Needs some touch up but that is easy. Best part is I couldn't have bought 1/2 of a goosebox for what I spent. Now to find that big toy hauler. My Wife is getting worse ( Parkinson's ) and really needs her golf car as her mobility scooter just doesn't work well on some terrains.

AirSafe 5er hitch

I've run across a 20k AirSafe brand air ride type hitch but I've never heard of them. TrailerSaver is the only brand I know anything about or see mentioned on rv forums. Anyone have any knowledge of these as I am looking to go to a heavier toy hauler& need to probly replace my 18k Patriot B&W which I really like.

Based on OP's post, I'd place $$ that the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is plugged up There is also 2 oxygen sensors , one on each side of the DPF filter if like my 2012.

We are heading to our place in Arkansas tomorrow & its 330 miles. We plan on 10 days there then head home. I'll feal the pain and I need to go back at least 2 more trips to finish my project. I haven't decided yet what price is too steep. $6 bucks or better may be the line in the sand.

RE: Step to reach hitch pin

I use a 2 step folding plastic ladder. I stand it beside the rear wheel and reach over to the handle to lock it in place or unlock it. When travelling I put it on the floor in the back seat. When not travelling it goes into the bed of the truck. I think mine is a three step, but it's the same idea. I also find many uses for it around the campsite as well as on the road. I'm only 195 pounds, but I am 89 years old so that counts for something. I use a 3 step also & it comes in handy pretty regular.

RE: GFI electrical question

I was having a GFCI tripping quiet often & replaced and kept tripping. I checked the wires in panel & found the neutral on the gnd bus and the gnd wire on neutral. Swapped wires to correct bus ( these should be set up as subfeed panels ) & no more nuisance trips. Why it had not done this for 8 years since new don't have a clue. Just something to check.

You’ll never wish your pad was smaller, but you might wish it was bigger. That's the truth . Go at least 16x44. I have a covered 20x45 & allways wishing I had gone 24 wide. It's just money.

As I recall you should not be using the start run capacitor with the soft start… 3 tons The RUN capacitor stays or it won't start. I looked at a few soft start install schematics and all unwired the start cap /pt cr. I respectfully disagree… 3 tons Single phase semi-hermetic,Rotary, or scroll compressor will not start without a RUN capacitor but it will run after achieveing about 70% operating RPM without it. A Start Capacitor is a booster and only stays in the circuit briefly or it will be damaged. Most all RV AC's use a capillary tube metering device and should never need any hard start capacitor type accessories if getting proper voltage/current OP probably unhooked the incorrect lead from RUN capacitor
