RE: And Texas Caves In

"If it's someone's time to go, I can't save them. Some people simply will die from this virus, like it or not. Everyone dies eventually, like it or not. However, the people who are most susceptible are still free to stay away from the rest of us (self-isolate) as we resume our own survival tasks." Since the Michigan rallies, I’m all for this because it looks like support for this mainly comes from a particular political bent, and if they want to race for the exit, have at it!We can only hope....

What's an "entitlement?" The 'free stuff' expected by some members of out society.Well heck, I decided to look it up for myself. Paint it anyway you want. Everyone knows which 'entitlement people' we are talking about. ;) Yep, y'all know to respond when they blow that dog whistle! Some folks just have to think their own "entitlement" is somehow more legit than the next guy's. Sad....

Epidemiologist: Coronavirus could be ‘exterminated’ if lockdowns were lifted Good read. And from an epidemiologist too. This guy's credentials don't compare favorably with Drs Fauci and Birx, FWIW. Those epidemiologists actually working on the pandemic have made it clear there is no evidence at this point to support the hopes of herd immunity. Also that's a crackpot website that makes no secret of it's bias. Let's check back in a couple of months and see which of the "experts" knew what they were talking about. My money's on Fauci and Birx.

What's an "entitlement?" The 'free stuff' expected by some members of out society.Well heck, I decided to look it up for myself. From the US Senate website, "entitlement - A Federal program or provision of law that requires payments to any person or unit of government that meets the eligibility criteria established by law. Entitlements constitute a binding obligation on the part of the Federal Government, and eligible recipients have legal recourse if the obligation is not fulfilled. Social Security and veterans' compensation and pensions are examples of entitlement programs." Hits close to home doesn't it? Social Security and Medicare are the largest.... Edit- I forgot to add that apparently 90% of "entitlement" dollars go to working families, the elderly and the disabled.

RE: Texas to reopen State Parks

I go to the store NO gloves. I keep my CC in a shirt pocket with nothing else. Once done shopping I touch the bottom of my door handle and truck unlocks. I open back door and place goods inside. Close door and open drivers door and pump hand sanitizer into my hands BEFORE touching anything else. Once home I bring everything inside to one counter. I then remove all my clothes and place in washing machine. I also place cc with items to be cleaned and use sanitizer on it. I put produce away and frozen goods. I then take wipes to everything else setting them in a clean area one at a time. Now I clean surface those goods were on and thoroughly clean my hands. Now I put away those items. When removing produce I place in sink and thoroughly wash and clean hands and surfaces again. I also wipe my door handles on truck and RV that I touched so when all done I say "BACK TO SAFE ZONE AGAIN" So gloves do no good IMHO. Leaving gloves on you are contaminating everything you touch inside the vehicle along with everything you touch, FALSE sense of security!!! This seems like a good system and is very similar to what I do, with the exception that I order the groceries online and they bring them out to my car. If I went in a store I might wear gloves to help remind me not to touch my eyes or face, then discard them when I got back to the car.

RE: And Texas Caves In

Budget shortfalls = Lets raise taxes!!! Just wait. Maybe they can reverse the damage done with their "tax relief" that happened a year ago. I'll give up the pittance if the rich return the trillion. Funny how the $1.5 trillion given to the richest individuals and corporations meant the economy was going to ZOOM! Now, give $2trillion to the other 99% and we are bankrupting the economy for generations to come. Not to mention that way less than half of the current $2 trillion will ever come near the 99%. Sad that folks are bamboozled into directing their resentment toward some other poor sap making minimum wage or getting by on unemployment.

Good news it's April and the virus should be forgotten about. It was over by Easter, right? I don't know why we are still screwing around at home two weeks later. Let's get out and paarr-teee!!!

RE: Long arm of the law...

If the “Mother Earth” logic is true, then “Mother Earth” will correct itself through famine, flood, fire, or whatever other cataclysmic event is required to reduce the population to such a point that we all reset and begin again. Maybe we are in the midst of just such a correction? I applaud pnichols for his unselfish life choices. I hope that all who chose large families have produced at least one teacher, scientist, farmer or health care worker to mitigate the damage. ;)

RE: The camping industry is going to be hit hard

Do y’all realize the vast majority of people are still working??? Correct! All this hysteria about killing the economy. When this is over people are going to want stuff just like they did before and someone will be there to sell it to them:h

In the 1970s I drove across Texas in a 1967 VW Westie. 50 mph on the flats. I'm sure back then it was 2000+ miles border to border. Endless....

RE: The camping industry is going to be hit hard

Seems like going into an economic depression is a high price to pay. I think we have to remember to blame the virus for the economic hit rather than imagine all would be well if the governors had not acted. Most of what has closed here in TN would have closed anyway due to lack of customers. Even here there aren't enough stupid folks to keep bars and nail salons in business with the virus circulating around.Good luck selling that hogwash. There's a difference between reacting, over reacting, and hyperventilation. Most of of us are smart enough to see the difference. Are you saying there are enough stupid people to keep bars and nail salons open or that the few "non essential" businesses would not have suffered anyway? I think my original statement can stand on its own but since you brought it up, there is a documented 99% chance that I'm smarter than you are. :R :B

Unbelievable. Maybe someone can identify him and call him out locally. Brings up memories of the reprobate Andersen Hitch family a couple of years ago.

It's beyond tin hat to think any mayor or governor wants to shut anything down for longer than they believe is needed.

RE: And Texas Caves In

Testing negative would mean almost nothing. It wouldn't prevent you from future infections. Yes, the current reports from South Korea seem unpromising for the herd immunity hope. If we actually can catch it over and over and continue to spread it while we have it, a bunch of us are going to be sick. Plus it's no sure thing that they can develop a vaccine that works, even given a couple of years. This may be the population curb we've been needing!

RE: And Texas Caves In

It will be interesting to see what happens with jobs when the stay at home advisories are lifted. The meatpacking plants didn't close because some governor asked them to, they closed because the workers got sick. The auto plants in this state closed before any social distancing order was issued. The restaurants were nearly empty before the order, there were not that many folks foolish enough to sit cheek to jowl with others just to have a meal. Hotels and airlines failed because they didn't have customers, all prior to any orders. The virus has put people out of work, not so much the politicians. Just a reminder....
