RE: New shocks?

^Yeah I'm going to take the rears down to the mid 30's and see if that helps before I spend a [email protected]*load of money on shocks. Dang I didn't know shocks had gotten that expensive, You may find running on under inflated tires to be more expensive. I ran 35 psi in BF Goodrich M/T on an empty 3/4 4wd for years and they wore perfectly even. I run 50 psi front 45 psi rear in my current 3/4 ton when empty and they have all worn perfectly even too. I wouldn't think that running 35 psi in the rear tires of an empty dually would cause premature tore wear. Other than tire pressure I don't see any other way to improve the empty ride of a 1-ton pickup.

RE: Old tow rig about ready for duty again!

That's awesome!! Looks GREAT! Your truck is next buddy! You're already turning that thing into a museum piece of art. Time to bust out the hammers, sanding blocks, bondooo and paint gun! Thank you very much but I'm not too sure that it will ever see new paint.

RE: Bought a second truck.

https://i.postimg.cc/SstRN3V3/IMG-9406.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/BZp9D20Z/IMG-9409.jpg I rebuilt the carburetor yesterday that I'm going to run on the 410. Its a Motorcraft 4300 from a 1974 Ford F-250 460, its 610 CFM. https://i.postimg.cc/wBLnBm2p/IMG-9410.jpg I got my phenolic carb spacer too. https://i.postimg.cc/CMPrS708/IMG-9404.jpg And my new Luk clutch finally arrived. Not so sure why it took soo long to get here. I ordered the new flywheel the day I made the deal on the 410. The 410 and 428 crankshafts (the same crankshaft) are externally balanced and require different dampers and flywheels from all of the other Ford FE engines. Getting close. Hopefully next week.

RE: Bought a second truck.

https://i.postimg.cc/kMNkfRXd/IMG-9327.jpg I took the engine over to my friends shop where we'll do the swap. This is like the doctor letting you carry your new heart into the operating room. ;) https://i.postimg.cc/WzfmX7dn/IMG-9328.jpg This is who I bought the truck from and where we'll swap engines. https://i.postimg.cc/YqZfFbK2/IMG-9329.jpg I checked inside all of the cylinders with a bore scope and this is what I found in #2. :E :B https://i.postimg.cc/KYqnZNNy/IMG-9330.jpg And I was very pleased to see that it doesn't have flat top pistons. These should be 10.5:1 compression like it had from the factory. So far things are going great.

They look fantastic! The fact that they are new old stock is nothing short of amazing... Thank you, I am 110% happy with them. They are a lot better than I ever hoped to find.

RE: Bought a second truck.

https://i.postimg.cc/t4DGx0cQ/IMG-9311.jpg I got rid of most of the red yesterday. The carburetor is a Motorcraft 4300 4-V from a 460 in a 1974 Ford truck. Its rated at 610 CFM. Should work nicely until I find a suitable replacement. https://i.postimg.cc/SKwTXDmb/IMG-9312.jpg I am very pleased with my Mercury valve covers. They appear to be NOS (new old stock). There are no signs of even having been bolted on to an engine nor signs that they have ever been painted. 2nd most expensive part so far, right behind the new flywheel.

RE: Bought a second truck.

Well, it is possible that by 1978-1979 Ford figured out how to fuse the nut to the bracket and eliminate the need for the Vise Grips....... I'm sure it was getting pretty expensive. :B

RE: Bought a second truck.

When we were kids my dad had an RV shop. We minions were his work force and wired up all the tow vehicles to campers and trailers. The early 70's Ford pickups that were "Camper Special" had a factory camper plug under the front drivers side corner of the bed. The bracket that held the recptical almost always had a pair of Vise-Grips holding the nut in place so the guy/gal on the assembly line could air gun the bolt. They seldom took the Vise Grip off. It was good supplier of Vise Grips. It the later years when a F250 or F350 Camper Special came into the shop we'd find a rusty pair of Vise Grips still there! I was the 2nd owner of a 1972 F-250 camper special so I didn't get the free vise-grips. I was the original owner of a 1979 F-250 camper special, still no vise-grips. I feel cheated, LOL

RE: Bought a second truck.

https://i.postimg.cc/FK00fKHM/410-7.jpg Well it looks like I'm the proud owner of a pair of correct 1966 Mercury 410 Valve covers. Now I need to find the correct air filter housing. BAD AZZ Thanks, I'm stoked that I got them. $$$$ for a pair of old valve covers. LOL
