RE: Trouble with leaking around toilet flange

I avoid going much past 2/3, I don't want sudden braking to cause a spill. I recently changed the flush valve on my Thetford. The kit came with a new gasket, which I used. I found the gasket easily moved off center, and it took several tries to get it right. I had to open the valve and look down the throat to see if the gasket was even. You should be able to see the extent of gasket compression in a similar manner.

RE: Insurance!

Except that VINs were standardized to 17 characters back in the mid 70's, and insurance company systems won't accept anything's like a 9-digit phone number, they keep telling you it's wrong. Your signature states you have a 2002 Lance. Seems like it should have a standard VIN even if it was originally sold in a "cargo" state. If not, I would call Lance and tell them you need a VIN.

RE: Bathroom access on the road

Is it a matter of getting the bathroom door open? The bathroom door on my slideless BF has a hinge down the center to clear the dinette. Perhaps something similar could be ordered on your Adventurer.

RE: Torklift camper tie down width question

I run mine narrow, don't want them sticking out where they're more likely to snag something. I always figured the inner holes were for those needing extra clearance for full length running boards or dually fenders. Homemade load guides ensure any side to side movement is minimized.

RE: Insurance!

I believe Lance does lots of business in states where campers are titled, registered, and licensed as vehicles. They also must realize campers sold in the "cargo" states might end up elsewhere, and I suspect they provide lighted license plate hangers and certificates of origin for all campers. I believe what you are calling a serial number can equally be called a VIN. I use State Farm for vehicles, home, and umbrella. No claims yet regarding a camper.

RE: Evaporative Coolers for Lance

My Coleman will freeze up if I'm not careful. Does the Houghton have a freeze sensor?

RE: RecPro RV A/C

For AC, W=V*A*pf where pf is the power factor. pf is always less than one for inductive loads such as motors. I would go with the wattage rating.

RE: Evaporative Coolers for Lance

I remember Michigan. Step out of the shower, towel off, then stay damp all day. If the water doesn't evaporate there is no cooling.

RE: Repo a Truck Camper???

Any thought of listing it for sale? it might be easier to sell it now by providing a proof of purchase notarized to seller, than continue to pay on loan until its done. And this "proof of purchase" indicates there is a lien holder? Who would buy under this condition?

RE: toilet water valve

I finally replaced the leaking valve on my Style Plus. The old valve had fine spider web cracks in it. I found out why when I went to reinstall the toilet and the supply piping didn't line up. BF had simply forced the pex into position, keeping a steady force on the valve. A little trimming of the pex took away the bind. If it leaks again, I'll look into a flexible hookup line, but I believe this will last much longer than before.

RE: Torklift install question

In my experience, all needed hardware is supplied.

RE: Locked out of RV

Try pushing in on the door hard and pulling the handle or push in hard and use the key. Facility used the dead bolt yesterday instead of the fob and it didn't want to open.He came out and pushed n rel hard, the seal has a lot of compression, and I used the key and it opened right up. Agreed. Pulling on the handle pulls on the door, which is already being pushed by the door gasket, making the bolt more difficult to move. I use more of a rotation than a pull.

RE: Happijacs, what will happen if.........

When picking up my 1st TC in 98, the dealer demonstrated loading. No motors on the HJs, so my help was needed. We lowered the TC until it was an inch or 2 off the bed, and even. Then we dropped the front until it made contact before dropping the rear. The slant of the uploaded bed combined with the front down 1st philosophy put the TC front well below the back while in this part of loading process. The jacks survived this and every other loading without failure. Dealer approved and time tested.

RE: Trying different method of fresh water tank sanitization

I sanitize with bleach once a year, letting it sit overnight. I follow with a vinegar soak to kill the bleach smell. Open taps to get bleach or vinegar through all the lines. Follow with a plain water soak before filling. Water heater remains bypassed until final step because both bleach and vinegar are corrosive and will attack the aluminum water heater tank.

RE: New license plate for my TC.

Plates to be unobstructed 3.03 A number plate must be kept entirely unobstructed and free from dirt or foreign material, so that the numbers and letters on it may be plainly seen and read at all times and so that the numbers and letters may be accurately photographed using a speed monitoring device or traffic light safety device prescribed under section 83.1 of the Act. That makes nearly all trailers illegal, certainly all fifth wheels. Make sure you stop frequently to remove bugs or snow/ice accumulation.

RE: toilet water valve

The explanations provided by phil-t/opnspaces and Old-Biscuit are contrary. Can someone else chime in on the purpose/function of this vacuum breaker?

RE: 12v to 6v review?

Real world here: When running a single 12, twice we had sudden battery failures while traveling. Each time required an out of the way trip to a town to find a replacement. Not how I wanted to spend precious vacation time. The new camper has a pair of 12s. No failures yet, but when it occurs I’ll disconnect the bad one and deal with a replacement later. Do you suppose NAPA (or anyone) in Joseph, OR has a suitable 6 in stock?

Which Thetford model? I just noticed my Style Plus is leaking from the supply side flush valve.
