RE: Timbren SES

I began with Timbrens on my old truck. They helped with sag, but made the sway worse. This is due to the inboard mounting location. I was able to reduce the sway with energy suspension bumpers on the overloads. On my new truck, I went first with TL upper Stableloads and found the sag was acceptable.

RE: you like Torklift StableLoads? / Upper, lower or BOTH?

Thanks-great input. I had a good conversation with TL the other day. I will be going with lower SL’s first and see how that goes. I can add uppers later if needed. Thx to All. You'll be drilling your springs? I'll be curious to hear how that goes.

RE: you like Torklift StableLoads? / Upper, lower or BOTH?

I have them, and they don't engage or otherwise affect the ride when unloaded. If they did, I would contact TL.

RE: I built shelves in a wardrobe for more storage.

So here's my no drill project. The horizontal pieces are intended to keep the supports pressed into the corners to prevent the whole thing from bouncing up. Thanks for the bullnose edge idea. height=700 width=500

RE: I built shelves in a wardrobe for more storage.

I like the bullnose front edge, and used the idea. Helps hide my ragged saw cut on the shelf. Project is going well and should be finished when I get a few more hours to work on it.

RE: I built shelves in a wardrobe for more storage.

Very timely post. Thanks. Since we bought our camper in '18, my wife has been asking for shelves in the wardrobe. I've been slow to respond due to the thin paneling inside. I managed to find this video yesterday. I shared many of this lady's concerns, so I began my own no-drill solution. 2X4s will take up too much space, so I've got 2X2s in the back and 1X2s in the front. Unlike the video, I'll shape the shelves to fit around the supports so less space is wasted. It won't be anywhere near as pretty as Jeff's work, but I think It'll be functional. Starting with two shelves up high, but more can be added later if desired. Removable for trips where we really want to hang clothing, or for the next owner.

RE: vibration

After getting the letter from Ford, I contacted the service center and described the problem. They went ahead and replaced the steering damper today. We'll see if there's any recurrence.

RE: Hooking grill to onboard propane

I have a Magnum that came with a one piece regulator/control. Bypassing was not an option, since there would be no flame control. I found that Magnum has a low pressure control available. Might check with the manufacturer.

RE: New Shock Time

When your shocks wear out its a gradual thing until one day you find your vehicle bouncing for a half a mile after hitting an overpass. At that point any new shock is going to be an improvement. I don't understand how shocks will help after you've done the canopener thing. Bouncing I think is the least of your worries.

RE: vibration

Speaking of death wobble, received a letter from Ford today extending the warranty on my steering stabilizer. Seems there have been issues with sustained oscillation above 45 mph after hitting rough pavement. Good to know, but it doesn't really describe what occurred. My '04 didn't even have a stabilizer originally. It had the bracket, so I added one.

RE: vibration

We enjoyed sunny dry weather. No mud in sight.

RE: Road trip Portland OR to Las Vegas

We did our interview at PDX a few years back. Did something change?

RE: vibration

Wobble sounds like a side to side issue, this was more up and down. I tried to reproduce the effect yesterday. Two wheel high, four wheel high, one hub locked, the other locked, both locked; all smooth. I think I must have had a stone in one of the wheels where I didn't see it that came loose eventually.

RE: vibration

Going 30 on a washboard road? Sounds foolish to me. No, this was on the highway afterward.

So how would backing up cure tread separation?

RE: vibration

Plenty of slippage where I was. I like to use 4wd when I can, just so I know it's working when I really need it. (Maybe I did find a problem this time) I also don't wish to contribute to the washboarding by spinning wheels. Under 10k on the truck. I could feel the vibration in the wheel and seat, and it was audible as well. Wishing to get home in a timely manner, I resisted the urge to try 4wd or manually locking the hubs on pavement on the way back. I will do so when time allows.

Seems like boondocking is the way to go during covid. Went several miles on rough, washboard NFS roads to our campsite. Kept it in four wheel high until we were back on the highway after, then back to two high. The vibration was horrendous, feeling like things would shake apart at 30 mph. Stopped and checked treads for rocks, and found none. Rolled back a bit to ensure the automatic hubs unlocked, and proceeded home. Again, the vibration occurred. Not knowing what else to do, I pulled over once again and backed up. Afterward, 65 mph was nice and smooth. Anyone else experience anything like this? Doesn't seem like one or two locked hubs on a straight highway should be problem. Thanks.

RE: Front Hitch receiver F-250

WyoBull, Exactly what I'm setting up. Too bad Torklift didn't put a receiver for the plate bracket on their Lock and Load Sidekick carrier. Need to be legal with the carrier off and on. I decided to modify the original Ford bracket to make it easier to transfer to the carrier.

RE: Front Hitch receiver F-250

Any of you front hitch users live in a front license plate state? I'm looking for a good way to mount a plate legally when hitch is in use. Ideas are welcome.

RE: System X Crystal Ceramic Coating

Dirt and water are claimed to almost slide off, I suspect that might make bud removal better... What is "bud"? I understand it's the best part.
