Problem with B&W Companion unhooking from hitch

So I have 10 1/2 years and 85,000 miles on my above mentioned hitch. We have been moving slowly to our winter gig while hitting NPs that the wife hadn't seen since she was 8. We have stayed in 27 campgrounds and unhitched at most other than a few overnights on flat sites. So we pulled into a USACE park last night, our last before a days drive to our gig park for the winter. Site was not very level. I went to unhook, no big problem. Lowered the front jacks to take the weight off the hitch, hopped in the truck and placed in neutral to take any front/back pressure off of the pin. Got out pulled the safety pin and then pulled the release handle. I always check to see if the jaws have opened sometimes they haven't so I get back in the truck and shift from D to R with just the idle is. Jaws still closed? Put truck back in neutral, raised the trailer a bit nothing. Lowered the truck still nothing and there is no pressure on the locking lever. Of course this leaves me with a problem as we are a days drive 280 miles. I have to assume something is broke within the mechanism but does that mean the jaws are closed and unable to open or since their is no presure on the locking lever a strong pull could pull the jaws open and cause a possible disaster. Any thoughts?

RE: Propane tank

I have 2 40# tanks one behind the other. These are 75# when full and a real pain to remove the rear tank and replace it full. I was told best to keep rear tank closed and just run off the front one. As full-time travelers we avoid cold weather but the only in South Florida have we totally escaped it. We survive 40 degree and above with the fireplace/heater and heat pump. If the weather man warns of freezing temps I'll give the front tank a tap test if it has been a while since it was filled. If it sounds like it may be low I'll open the valve to the rear tank. If the turnover shows red in the morning I'll get the tank filled, if not I'll turn the rear tank off. If the conditions remain the same for couple nights I repeat the same routine till front tank is empty or the weather moderates.

RE: Who uses a pop-up canopy?

We've gone through 3 screen rooms 1 10x10 2 12x12 we only put them up when were volunteering and stationary 3 months at a time. Even spraying with uv protection the sun takes its toll.

RE: Ford vs Dodge 4 point fifthwheel attachment

If you are asking if a hitch for oem Ford puck system will fit the Ram pucks, the answer is no. Jerry You wouldn't want conformity what fun would that be. I purchased a 2017 F350 DWR to replace my 2009 F350 DRW> It didn't come with the puck system so I had a turnball hitch installed figuring I could use my B&W Companion hitch. Got to use half of it, the head was OK but the factory told me I needed a new base.

RE: Propane tank

Lift the tank and judge the weight. That will give you a pretty good idea of how much is left. Try that with a 40# tank.

RE: Propane tank locks for my TT

I have never heard of anyone having a propane tank stolen in 40 years of camping They might not leave you tankless but I've heard of some scoundrels switching out old dated tanks for newer ones. I just take outdated tanks that fill stations refuse to Blue Rhino exchange. Good to go till thote expire.

RE: Advice on towing a 5th wheel

You might want to check on the length. I saw where they don't count what is over the truck in the total length. Only the length of the "box" it self. So a listed 33' 5er is minus the upstairs, or bed if it has a bed up stairs. Just like on a Travel Trailer. The tongue is not counted in the published length. Only the Box itself. This is where a tape measure comes in real handy. Misinformed. My 5er is 37 ft from the pin to the rear of the fiver the 5th wheel hitch for the pin is 2inches in front of the trucks rear axle.

RE: Salt Lake to Albuquerque on a 40 Pusher then to Florida.

Don't sweat the indians. I'd be more concerned about the NM Gov. closing down everything, which she just did. Avoid NM at all cost. They are termed native americans not indians How can they be native Americans when there was no America. I prefer first nation peoples though that is a misnomer as well.

RE: 1500 curb weights

If your looking at new trucks ask the sales person to see the shipping ticket. That's the wt sans fuel other than the 2-3 gal shipped with and any dodads a dealer may have added.

RE: Domestic frig

I have a Dometic Refigerator, mod# RM3762, production # 921144207. I need a heater and I don’t seem to find my production #. Part # I see is 3850644422, but doesn’t show for my frig. Will this work in my frig? I good at finding stuff on Google but from what I see is your model is no longer in production. It would be good if you had the orginal owners manual with parts list it might give clue to the wattage of heater element. Good luck.

RE: Any one else giving up snow birding due to the covid

As far as travel this year we have cruised the gulf states, been in all states west of the Mississippi other than OR,WA,ND,MN. Just about 8,000 mi. 30+ campgrounds. In many of the CG's we never saw management all handled by phone and many other were self pay. We're in AZ right now but plan on heading East in a a week or so. Haven't found a full campground since mid September in Billings Montana. My fault for not calling earlier in the day.

RE: Any one else giving up snow birding due to the covid

They are starting to test the chinese vaccine (CanSino) in Mexico. It always amazes me how hard it is to get news, as to how other countries are doing with the virus. Its like our news networks are afraid or embarrassed to report anything from other countries on the subject. Could be they don't want you to know how badly other countries are handling it. That would hurt the narrative they want to maintain.

RE: West coast - Washington to Mexico...starting October 1

Every year is different. What works one year won't work the next. Something I learned farming floods last year drought this year or vice versa. One thing we have going for us is more reliable weather reports that reach out ten days or so. Not perfect but better than a big toe that tells you the weather is going to turn.
