Peninsula State Park in Door County Wisconsin has a turn around at the entrance that is impossible for anything longer than a 20 ft trailer. If you pull in and for some reason decide to leave, you have to drive into the park quite a way to get turned around. If you go against the instructions that are posted at the turn around, you will hit either a large rock or a tree. I have seen it often. One time I watched a tow truck skid a 5r sideways to get it out of the turn. If you go into the park about a half mile, there is a nice turn around. that sounds like the McDonald's drive thru...if you don't order, you're still screwed by having to go through the drive

Almost -- twice. About ten years ago in California, Valley Center, Woods Valley campground. This time my fault: one wrong turn took me into a portion of the campground with no exit for my 34' fifth-wheel. Fortunately residents of that area stopped me just before point of no return and helped me to back out--long way! Two years later, Stone State Park near Sioux City, Iowa. Had reservations but found no campsite adequate, proceeded to a loop at the end of the campground--loop too small and tight with a small tree right in the center. Took much hemming and hawing but I did just barely get out. Went on to a KOA across the river in South Dakota. Finally did get a refund because there was no one on duty to assist me at the state park. These are the campground close calls. Many others on the road. Once near Brandon, MS went to visit a friend in a retirement center pulling the fifth-wheel (on the way to Florida). No parking at all, but I turned down the residential street across from it. It turned out to be a cul de sac. It was a narrow street with mailboxes at driveways. Would not want to do that again. Almost destroyed a mailbox and had to back into a very busy boulevard. A thread like this excites us all and brings back memories mostly of narrow escapes which are our victories. my opinion is that state parks are the WORST. most of the state parks are much older than the current generation of campers. used to be a small pop-up or tent camping--which a lot of people do and enjoy-- then comes along (maybe since the late 70s?) 30+ ft trailers and tow rig combos well over 60 ft and you quickly mark state parks off your list. I don't think the funding is there to make them any all, but most.

My Gps took me to the 9th Ward in New Orleans, and I did a few blocks of backing to get out of there quick. one of the best investments I made was a truckers GPS, enter weight, height and size all around and if properly updated will keep you off narrow streets, one ways, bridges, etc..the one I have runs about $400 but well worth it.

getting trapped inside a park

I've searched the different forums and haven't found any stories about this, but this question doesn't just apply to fifth wheels, it could apply to any rig : has anyone pulled into an unfamiliar park, only to find out their rig is too large to maneuver through and get out? if so how did you do it? we recently visited a state park, and I just moved from Washington where there are several state parks near where we lived. we drove in without our rig, which was a GOOD thing because if I had been pulling my fiver there was NO way we would have gotten out. switchback roads, trees lining the very narrow drive. deception pass state park comes to mind, on the island side. I think there is a sign or some literature that limits trailers to 20 ft, but if you didn't know that and pulled're screwed, you're not getting out.

$300 bypass kit reduces the magnitude of the CP4 horror stories by about 90%. what is the proper full term for the bypass kit and how would I go about asking for one to be installed. I am not fond of any dealership IF they would even do that sort of thing. is this considered a major alteration? I'm guessing any after market / performance diesel shop can get this?

I don't own one but I spend at least 50 hours a week in a 2019 F450. I work for a very large cable utility company. In a 5-6 county area I've heard of no issues with a HPFP or any other major issues since the 6.4 days. Those however, well......... this is good information, thank you!

Just one MORE reason that the RV industry should start changing over to an automotive-type model. Want a new GMC/Chevy truck? Go into any dealer and you get the =same= MSRP truck for truck, and deal from there. Other nice thing is that if you want to deal with your home-town dealer and find a truck half-way across the country, they can do dealer-to-dealer "sales". Customer gets what he wants, locally, and both dealers make some money. Customer ALSO gets to service his truck at ANY dealer, ANY time and NOT get put at the back of the line. FWIW, my dad recently told me a story about when he bought his first 2-row cotton picker in the early 60's. Bought it from an IH dealer in TX and had it shipped here to AZ. IH dealer here in town, owners were family friends, tried the "you didn't buy it here b.s." when Dad needed some service on it, and Dad simply responded with, "I have the IH corporate phone number in my rolodex at home. I'm happy to spend $20 on a LD call to tell them my situation." He got it serviced for the next 15 years he owned it. :B Lyle do you still have her number? I found a guy at DRV like that. I was seriously considering a DRV about 3 years ago, got in touch with a factory guy after about 2 weeks of asking a series of questions. the guy was awesome. he didn't care if I bought a DRV or not and gave me a ton of good information to look out for. he even told me which models NOT to buy and why. good guy

I understand you're dilemma. However, when you type in CP4 (just those 3 characters) and google "auto fills" to --CP4 failure in Powerstroke I think that pretty much a dead giveaway that there's more problems with powerstroke and CP4 than with anyone else...for whatever reason.

Grit Dog and Travlingman, I don't know what you're looking for as for "data". I had some other pages that I closed out where between the ones I posted and the others, there was enough data to make a trend in my opinion. I would love to see the number of Powerstroke engines sold from 2011-2017, how each was used, the number of failures of each part, the number of miles each engine had on it at the time of failure, and finally the cause and remedy of each failure...however I seriously doubt that is available to just anyone. if thats what you are asking me for, I don't have that. However I do NOT find the amount of data regarding the RAM engines with this part, as I do the Ford Powerstroke. my turn to ask you where you see that Cummins is putting the Eurpoean made Bosch CP4 fuel pump on it's engines. I have one in the driveway but it's dark and cold right now, I will go out and see if I can tell in the AM

here is some of what I found. I closed the pages, so some simple searches will probably yield the same results google and look through the blogs. there is a TON of info on failures there. that page has a lot of pop-up ads so I have going there for long.

Well, what did you hear strikeu? We all love rumors, conjecture and facts. Seems typically in that order as well. Lol. the High pressure fuel pump fails a LOT in 2011-2017 6.7L powerstroke engines. there is a great many people trying to start a class action law suit on that issue. that particular fuel pump was made in Great Britain where the diesel is more "oily" than American specs. so when it runs with American standards diesel it disintegrates for lack of lubrication. it can destroy an entire engine to the tune of $10-15k. it seems (no real data yet) that after 2017 there is a different fuel thats good if I am buying new, but not good for my 2012. the next high fail item is / was the turbo. new turbo kits can be obtained but it seems the original turbo on the powerstrokes are some type of Rube Goldberg contraption that fails routinely. new turbo kits are ~$3k. this seems to be fixed in the 2015+ models, bottom line is the 2017s are a bit too new to gather any real failure trends, but there are some significant data for the 2011-2017 6.7L powerstrokes. SO much that I am leaning back towards the RAM 3500.

RE: 2020 Ram 2500/3500: MotorTrend Truck of the Year

I've had both RAM 2500 and 3500 (with Cummins) and also the F-450 powerstroke. I love the Cummins. I think you could run a Cummins for half a million miles, but the powerstroke will pull way more, and it's twice the comfort. Ford found a niche market with that F-450 Lariat and King Ranch..nobody comes close to the comfort and ease of the F-450.. My humble opinion.

2017 or newer F-450 issues

Are there any "newer" F-450 owners here? I have a 2012 F-450 and might be looking to trade for newer. I had heard there were some bugs (not official re-calls but still problems) with some of the 2017 or newer F-450s. can anyone add an experience? thanks in advance.
