RE: 7th Gen S650 2024 Mustang

Talking about comparisons between older and new. My 96 F350 SBCC with 460 would get like 9 mpg maybe 300 hp. My son got a killer deal on a Ram TRX and with its 702 hp it does 13. Oh btw you can buy a gasser in Cali till 2035.

RE: TFLEV gets disinformation from Cyber Truck fan bois.

I saw a EV Hummer parked on the plaza the other day in Healdsburg. This is the heart of CA Wine Country and EV’s are embraced. It was BIG, like Super Duty with a 2”lift size. Reminded me of my sons Ram TRX. I didn’t get the chance to do an up close. It had paper dealer plates on it from Beaverton Oregon, I hope they drove it down. Living here I get to see almost all the EV’s on the road, it’s fun.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

Great article in WSJ the other day, have to have a subscription to read but here’s the headline, Gavin Newsom’s Dirty Energy Secret California’s electricity woes result from man-made climate policies, not from climate change. Talks about 30% of SoCal electricity from out of state coal.

I am in no way a hater but what I want to see is what the state of charge looks like after say Fremont to Reno at 80k. Then how long at the Mega charger at Reno. Then Reno to Salt Lake at 70 mph what’s left after that? Right now I’d say a tow truck back to Reno or 4 stalls at a Supercharger.

The smoke guzzling is just the tip of the iceberg of lunacy in that article. 8.1, combustion is the process used to make electricity? Oh these guys are real techno wizards.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

Another very real option is the Hyliion ERX, they have driving prototypes and over 200 firm orders. It’s batteries with a CNG generator. 1000 mi range, there are already 800 CNG fueling stations in US. Some other points Peterbuilt and Volvo are on board for the trucks all the equipment is installed on the line, Dana already makes the drive axles and Cummins is onboard for the engine and generator. Hyliion is doing the software, controls, batteries and cooling systems. They have history with all this as they have a hybrid mod for current trucks that’s been out for a few years. The big point is that the battery pack is capable of 75 mi of range on battery alone so it qualifies for the full 40k credit same as Tesla. They were an SPAC darling so they have 500 million in cash to finish the project.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

And you believe them? Seriously? You really believe them? No I don’t frankly for all the reasons you stated. 86 miles on 131 kw of power is .62 mi/kw btw.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

So I started doing some simple math. Tesla states less than 2 kw per mile, so if I give them the benefit of the doubt and say 1.5 kw / mi. The 600 mile Semi will need a 900 kw pack. Add some margin and you’re looking at a 1mw pack. To add the 70% or 420 miles in 30 min that’s 700 kw. So I’m thinking the Mega charger is 1.5 mw/hr. To install several thousand of those around the country will be no small project especially financially. I know they put 5 at GF Reno but remember Teslas next door neighbor there is a 1100mw gas plant and all the infrastructure was installed in roughly the last 20 years to support a new industrial corridor. I know Frito in Modesto installed 2 or more chargers so it’s obvious they’re getting the first trucks. Of course they’re going to use them such that they come home every day. No doubt they have a plan of routes already sorted based off Tesla data. Personally they’ll be beta testers. I think the idea using these trucks going Company facility to Company facility will be the norm for quite awhile. By that I also mean say Modesto to LA basin. They’re not going to accept or risk being number 3 in line at a Pilot. Feel free to fire at will.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

I have wondered if the projected range numbers are at 55 mph, CA speed limit for vehicles towing. Or is it at 70-75 like other states.

RE: 2023 Ford Super Duty

You said the Sales Mgr stated they’re not building them, maybe my friends is the last one. “A local Ford dealer told me a few weeks ago that they were not building any Super Dutys, changing over to 2023 models. (That came from the sales manager so take it with a grain of salt.) He told me if I laid down hand money the day i was there and ordered, the earliest I could expect was May 2023......maybe”.

The no more 2022’s is wrong a friend who ordered a 350 SRW CCSB in Feb has build date of 8-8 and tentative dealer date of 9-13.

RE: MotorTrend F150 Lightning Tow Test

I can’t see where the Cybertruck is going to do much better towing. Even with the 4680 cells and a 20% energy density increase you’re talking about an extra 20 miles or so.

RE: Camping in an EV.... Always charging...

Someone mentioned that they felt there was a chase vehicle due to driving shots. In the first installment they said they were taking a hybrid F 150 as well. They even tried charging the Lightning with it. I think they could get 7 miles of range an hour. I hope they do a segment comparing them.

So from what I gather Turtle and I live about 25 mi away from each other. Our electric provider is PG&E, Here’s their rate plan for home charging. Enjoy! https://www.pge.com/en_US/residential/rate-plans/rate-plan-options/electric-vehicle-base-plan/electric-vehicle-base-plan.page

RE: Dino juice v Electrons....

The interesting piece of that Lightning video was the charge rate. It was plugged into the 50 amp service but the truck said it would take over 3 hrs to top it up from around 80%. Granted the top part of a charge is usually at a reduced rate but I wonder just what it could do overnight. I’m guessing from the video that was a 28 ft Airstream. That combo with the small battery would really test your EV patience. I still like the truck. They also touched on the problem with the powered Airstream, 50 amps into the truck leaves the 30 for charging but also powering the trailer. At the end of the day somebody is going to have to pay for all the changes to park infrastructure, would it be a 100.00 plus a night spot?

RE: Unique situation: What tow vehicle checks all the boxes?

The Jeep Wagoneer might be able to do it. But 1500 in back and tongue weight of 7500 lb tt at the same time? Not sure anything but a HD crew cab can do that and be paper legal.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

Anybody else read the article where Tesla asked the Feds for a piece of the Infrastructure money for chargers? They want it specifically for building the network for Semis. Anybody remember at the unveil how Elon (fat Jesus) said they will build the network and provide power at like .03 a kw?

RE: Chevy 3.0 first tow.

Congratulations on the truck and tow! A neighbor has a GMC with the 3.0 and a similar trailer and loves it. Awesome empty mileage.
