RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

Is it just me or they could not find another site in Germany that didn’t require clear cutting an existing established woods?

RE: The TFL guys bought a 7.3L

Out of curiosity I looked at my dealers inv. 2 2020s in stock one 7.3 and one 6.7. Clicked on both the 6.7 was a 250 CCSB Lariat Ultimate Tremor which had an msrp of 75600. Holy moly!

RE: Super duty 10 speed gear ratios

I know all the Fords since 2011 have both pitch and roll sensors built in which would give it an input for first gear. Of course tow haul selected would also, plus don’t they monitor the 7 way plug? The TFL Ike pulls should be fun.

RE: The Big Boys have Just Arrived

Not familiar with a dually, how does the 5400 lb payload compare? The 7.3 sounds pretty good at the tailpipe.

RE: Tesla Cybertruck

Turtle, I was thinking the same thing. Out at night with questionable headlights and no side mirrors? Frankly the hubcaps are just plain silly.

RE: Why Tesla's are bad at towing!

There was an article in the Semi thread a couple months back about the Hyundai future truck. The VP of Engineering made a statement regarding the Tesla Semi will be in violation of Fed bridge limits regarding weight versus wheelbase he said they forgot to allow for this. There was also a Euro reg regarding front overhang that apparently it and the Nikola are out of spec. So they can’t go into city areas. Anybody else pick up on that?

RE: Creative Towing

Hey Robert, do late model diesel trucks in Australia have the same Emissions equipment as US? Catalyst, EGR, Exhaust fluid injection and Particulate filters. How much does a Caravan say 8 meters long with the off road suspension like the picture cost? Thanks

RE: Why Tesla's are bad at towing!

If I’m not mistaken the Porsche Taycan is 800 volts.

RE: Tesla Cybertruck

The talk about the Ridgeline got my curiosity up. Wikipedia has a great article on it. The new one still has a bed trunk and a 2 way tailgate like the old Ford wagons. They actually engineered the C pillar in the new one to allow it not to need the sail panel while still using unibody construction. There’s some interesting diagrams of the frame portion of the unibody. The Cybertruck shown at the reveal really was a concept vehicle. The designer said it was using five lug Model X suspension even though the hubcaps showed six. Plus it did not have the sub structure of the production model. They have some interesting challenges engineering wise as from my experience with aircraft I’ve seen firsthand that stainless does not play well with a lot of other materials from a galvanic corrosion side. Plus the idea that they’re going to score and fold the skin then stress it could cause cracking issues over time. We’ll see in a few years.

RE: Tesla Cybertruck

Being a 40 year aviation guy the term for a rating like that is “draw bar pull” capacity.

RE: Tesla Cybertruck

Did anybody else hear the reveal trucks were body on frame concepts? Automobile magazine reported it apparently. I guess the Cyberquad is a Yamaha Raptor 700 with a emotor and new plastics. Sounds like a lot of work still to do.

RE: Tesla Cybertruck

306 Cold Rolled Stainless sheet in 11ga. (.120) thickness, which is the thickness they are using within .002. Weighs 5.050 lb per square foot. On the Starship they’re trading the weight for heat resistance on reentry. It’s probably a wash when you back out the weight of a thermal treatment for a different metal. Somebody asked about the dash and it’s actually molded paper.

RE: New battery tech (Has this been posted yet?)

I just went to the Olympics.org site for 2020 Tokyo games and low and behold there’s a Toyota ad with the tag line Start your Impossible .

RE: New battery tech (Has this been posted yet?)

I had read that Toyota plans to announce and drive a solid state cell vehicle at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. I think that’s why they are so quiet about any BEV plans.

RE: Elon tease -- Tesla pick will look like military vehicle

Agreed, photoshop fun. The 300000 lb. towing came from the folks at Quantas who hooked a ModelX to a 787-9 (empty weight right at 300000) and pulled it a few hundred yards. There’s a YouTube of it. Should be fun to see what they come up with.

RE: Hyundai's new hydrogen truck

So in the article, Globally, it's a different story, since fossil-fuel Hyundai semi-tractors are sold in more than 100 countries, and the company's zero-emission truck future is starting outside the U.S. as well. Hyundai will also deliver the first of 1600 hydrogen-powered semi-tractors to companies in Switzerland later this year. While the powertrain in these trucks is zero emission, the look is a more standard cab-over design based on Hyundai's XCient truck. Should be interesting when they hit Switzerland .

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

In a completely unrelated fun fact, the jumper that failed and appears to have caused the Kincaid Fire was from The Geysers geothermal plant. Means nothing but I’m taking my mind off wether our house will exist after the next 48hrs. We got the evacuation order this morning. I have a lot if friends working this, just hope they stay safe.

RE: 2020 GM/Chevy gas 6.6L max towing test

I think it’s pretty impressive it took having the throttle pinned for over 10 minutes at that load in stride.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

I live in one of the areas affected by the Black Outs and 2017 fires. The interesting thing was the gas lines looked like the 70’s again. Grocery stores had a run also. A neighbor asked what I was going to do if I needed supplies? I told him drive the 5 miles to where the power is still on. I think it’s pretty cool they sent the message to charge before the shut off. The shut off is infinitely better than a fire, trust me on that one.
