RE: Ford, GM, FCA Agree to Shut Down US Plants

Saw an interesting article where Ford is going to build pressure breathing masks with 3M. Apparently the seat cooling fans from F-150 are nearly ideal. Using a 12v Dewalt battery they can run 5+ hrs.

RE: Diesel Brothers

I wonder if Elon has solar on his houses. Turtle, I had a 40 year career in Business Aviation and your fuel burn numbers are correct. There actually has been huge amounts of work on low smoke/ low nox combustors for years. Lots of work on the fuel nozzle side as well. There actually are mandated targets for emissions just like noise. I will say having been around many owners that the jets become a car, just hop in and let’s go. One of favorites, we flew the owners from the Bay Area to Tahoe for the weekend, brought the plane home and just closing the hangar when I get a call that housekeeper is bringing the wife’s favorite pair of jeans out to the airport and we need to fly them up. Off we went.

RE: We are gonna go camping!

I’m starting day two of shelter in place in Sonoma County CA. They’re encouraging outdoor activity just keep your distance. Have a blast on your trip!

RE: Is SHE GONNA BLOW!

Hey back to the Ops question, if it drank a bunch of coolant there could be bottom end damage waiting due to mild hydrolock.

RE: 2020 IKE raw and unedited

So I read the 2020 Ram 3500 owners manual regarding EB and Cruise. It states that max EB is only available in Auto mode. The instrument cluster has the ability to put a EB horsepower gauge in several corners of the screen and actually TFL has it on in the upper left as well as the center during the test. As far as Cruise goes it looks like both Adaptive and Manual use the brakes as they both have the ability to post a Brake Fluid Overheated message and lock out cruise control after posting.

RE: Motorcraft 10W30, 5W40, Rotella or Mobil 1 for 6.7

The factory fill is the 10-30 semi synthetic. That’s what my dealer puts in unless requested for the 5-40 full synthetic.

RE: 2020 Cummins IKE pull

I went back and watched the 4:00 minute mark of that video. I wonder why the gauge reads up to 240 reverse horsepower a while then drops off to 0? It almost seems as though the gauge starts reading at about 37 mph and it pulls it down to 35 mph then quits displaying. Could it be that while the gauge is displaying a number the wheel brakes are being applied. 240 reverse HP would definitely be slowing the truck. 175 reverse HP at the crankshaft should be enough to hold speed on the steepest part of the hill. That was my take on what happened. But as always I could wrong. I was wondering the same thing, it’s like the EB just gets shut off. Seems like it would be tough on some part of the drivetrain. Also if it just shutoff what’s holding the truck back from accelerating if not the brakes? I find it interesting that neither of them point out how cool that brake hp indication is.

RE: 2020 Cummins IKE pull

So right at the 4:00 mark the info center in the gauge cluster is showing 230 hp of braking. That’s at 3500 rpm. Then it drops to 0 really fast. Cool that it has that page of info.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

Anybody recall when GM owned Frigidaire and Ford had Philco making appliances and TVs? The more things change the more.....

RE: F350 Super Duty vs 3500 Denali vs The Ike Pulling 30k lbs

It’s actually 2 separate radiators and they do not mix there is a second belt driven water pump for this. Fish is correct it’s the fuel and trans coolers on the secondary system.

RE: F350 Super Duty vs 3500 Denali vs The Ike Pulling 30k lbs

FYI the Ford Charge Air Cooler is not tied to the engine coolant. It uses the Secondary Radiator which is mounted in front of the other. The Trans cooler and Oil cooler are the only other items tied to it.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

I saw my first Taycan on the freeway the other day. Really good looking car. Model S shows it’s age in comparison. On the Taycan forum a buyer stated they have already updated software to allow Turbo model to go up to 255 mi range. They talked about a range mode that give full acceleration up to 70 mph then it stops. Since Porsche doubled the first production run to 40k cars it seems they have a hit on their hands.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

With their new wealth and access to capital from it I’d like to see Tesla make good on the Aug 2018 claim/ tweet that GF1 would be off Grid by the end of 2019. There’s a token amount of panels on the roof now. Of course their neighbor happens to be an NV Energy (Berkshire) 1100 MW gas fired plant.

Is it just me or they could not find another site in Germany that didn’t require clear cutting an existing established woods?

RE: The TFL guys bought a 7.3L

Out of curiosity I looked at my dealers inv. 2 2020s in stock one 7.3 and one 6.7. Clicked on both the 6.7 was a 250 CCSB Lariat Ultimate Tremor which had an msrp of 75600. Holy moly!

RE: Super duty 10 speed gear ratios

I know all the Fords since 2011 have both pitch and roll sensors built in which would give it an input for first gear. Of course tow haul selected would also, plus don’t they monitor the 7 way plug? The TFL Ike pulls should be fun.

RE: The Big Boys have Just Arrived

Not familiar with a dually, how does the 5400 lb payload compare? The 7.3 sounds pretty good at the tailpipe.

Turtle, I was thinking the same thing. Out at night with questionable headlights and no side mirrors? Frankly the hubcaps are just plain silly.

RE: Why Tesla's are bad at towing!

There was an article in the Semi thread a couple months back about the Hyundai future truck. The VP of Engineering made a statement regarding the Tesla Semi will be in violation of Fed bridge limits regarding weight versus wheelbase he said they forgot to allow for this. There was also a Euro reg regarding front overhang that apparently it and the Nikola are out of spec. So they can’t go into city areas. Anybody else pick up on that?
