RE: From Ram to a Ford

And Bonus on the Ford you can go from towing mirrors to non towing mirrors from the drivers seat unlike the stupid RAM mirrors. That is one thing I hate about my RAM compered to the Ford.

RE: Big black ants

One thing to consider if it is carpenter ants is that they are attracted to rotting wood. We had some working their way into our house and eventually discovered that we had a leak in a shower and the wood curb under the tile was rotting. It could be a sign that your unit has a leak somewhere and wood rotting.

RE: Looking to buy 2018 Ram rebates are horrible

Dennis Dillon is at least worth a look. I got 12K off my 2018 bighorn that I ordered and all of their trucks on the lot or ordered are around 10-12K off MSRP. If you research them they are well known for their deals and being upfront on the pricing.

RE: Are Idaho Ram dealers worth the drive?

Dennis Dillon is a volume dealer. They are actually a very small dealer in a small town but I was told they average 500 vehicles a week. I was surprised when I showed up though they pretty much looked like every other small town dealer I have seen. Nothing like the mega lots we have in Denver and Phoenix. but if you make a little on every vehicle and are selling nearly 100 a day your probably going to do ok.

RE: Are Idaho Ram dealers worth the drive?

Yeah I shopped my Dillon price around to 4 dealers locally they were all between 3 and 5K more. And would not guarantee that price if I ordered. Dillion was a no brainer for me. It cost me less than $300 to go pick it up including 1 night in a hotel. Some people are more than willing to pay the 3K for the convenience I am just a cheapskate and was up for a fun to me road trip.

RE: Are Idaho Ram dealers worth the drive?

I ordered a 2018 RAM from Dennis Dillon. I would purchase from them again. They give you the price when you place the order and they honored that price when I picked it up. They were waiting at the Boise airport when I arrived and the whole process at the dealer was super smooth. They made a mistake on the finance paperwork and had to fedex me a new copy to sign which delayed the loan a week past the first payment due date. They paid the first payment for me without even asking and never asked me to repay them I guess since it was their mistake. Honestly you can't beat that in my opinion. I shopped their price locally and dealers here were about 3-4K more expensive after negotiating with them for a few days. The price on their website is accurate but it is the higher of the two prices typically. They are very upfront about that. The lowest price is available but you have to qualify for the additional programs RAM has going like owning a certain type of business or having a membership with certain organizations. Basically after watching their prices for a year or so you can pretty much count on 11K off MSRP. Lower priced trucks might be closer to 10K off and more expensive trucks closer to 12K off. Hope this information helps.

RE: pellet smokers/grills

Camp Chef makes a good one as well. I love my full size camp chef smoker and use it for everything.

RE: Gooseneck fifth wheel adapter question

Another feature i like about the Andersen Ultimate is that once you drop the trailer It is easier to be sure your hitched correctly and won't drop the trailer on your truck. 5th wheels can be a little more finicky that way. The only down side is that you will end up using your landing gear a little more. Specially when unhitching. It is also slightly slower to unhitch since you have to get the trailer coupler all the way above the ball.

RE: How do you guys carry bicycles inside?

Just an idea but I built a bike rack that uses the crank arm to hold the bikes upright. It has a square tube with a slot cut for the peddle. This is what all the shuttle vans typically use. I made mine to hold 3 bikes and it works really well. I just set it on the floor in the trailer on a mat or piece of carpet and with the three bikes it does not move at all. Here is a pic of one Typically the shuttle companies drop a rag over the top of the tube and push the crank arm down through the rag to protect the crank arm.

RE: Question for 2017 or newer F-350 DRW, and F-450 owners?

I will add a couple of things. The adaptive cruise and 360 camera options are some of the best available for any brand. The only issue we had with our 2018 is that the valve stems leaked and had to be replaced. I think a total of 4 of the 6 have leaked and resulted in 3 trips to the dealer. Other than that the truck has been flawless and tows the 16.5K toy hauler fine. I also have a 2018 Ram CTD SRW and I will say as far as power towing that same trailer the Ford and RAM are identical. The Ford seems to have a slight advantage with better mileage. The Ford has by far the better technologies avail.

RE: CO 9 to Breckenridge, CO

I go over it in both directions with my 36ft toy hauler around 17K pounds all the time No issues at all in either direction. You will be fine.

RE: 2018 Dodge 3500 Laramie Longhorn Duelly

I just thought I would add my experience. I have a 2018 RAM 3500 Aisin CTD. My dad has a 2018 Ford F350 6.7 dually. Mine is SRW. His gets better mileage towing my toy hauler loaded than the RAM does. His is much faster when unloaded and they both are within 2MPH pulling up over Vail pass on I-70 with the toy hauler loaded down. RAM has the cp3 pump so that is nice but the build quality on the Ford is better. The RAM gauges and infotainment system is better. The ford is quieter especially when under heavy load going up hill. The technology in the ford is head and shoulders above what RAM offers. The 360 Camera system, Adaptive cruise, Mirrors that go from tow mode to empty truck mode without getting out of your truck, Tailgate step and quite a few other features are just not avail on the RAM. I have driven both trucks pulling my 36ft toy hauler at least 2000 miles each over mostly the same roads. Just my .02 cents.

RE: Engine replacement . Ecoboost and GM 5.3

Have 330,000 on my 2009 suburban 5.3 . Pricing out New motor for the future . Can get New motor installed for around 6500. My mechanic had a 2012 f150 he was replacing ecoboost motor on, and he told me that motor replacement was 11,500 with new turbos . Was thinking that was crazy expensive! Is that really a realistic price for replacing those motors? Seems like way too much considering a new 3.5 from Ford themselves is 4500 and new turbos from ford are 400 a piece. And there are many other places you can get these parts new a bit cheaper. That's ALOT of labor charge. That is also considering Ford dealers charge 10k for a newly installed 6.7 diesel in the Superduty and that includes turbos too. The 10K for a 6.7 must be just the labor charge. They run about 27K with the motor included. The 6.4 was 21K installed. I just got a quote this summer for one of those.

RE: Tires, what are you using? Trailer? Truck?

I second the Bridgstone R250's. I have been running a couple sets on toyhaulers for 8-10 years and have not had a single failure. They are less expensive than the ribs but if you only have to replace them every 8-10 years worth the extra money for sure.

RE: Surveillance Camera Setups on your RV

We have used the Wyze cameras in our trailer to keep an eye on things when the dog had to ride back there one time. We just turned on a hotspot on the phone and connected the camera and then could view it with the other phone live from inside the truck. We also had two way audio. Those cameras use a USB cable so can be plugged into a usb charging port and run off your batteries. The best part is they only cost $30 shipped.

RE: Store Hot Water

When we lived in our toyhauler in Colorado during the winter I discovered that the temperature of water coming into the water heater had a huge effect on how long the hot water would last for showers. I installed an on demand propane water heater inline on the input side of the water heater. This used 2 D batteries for ignition and connected to a regular ground mounted bbq style propane tank. It would take our 40 degree water and raise the temp into the 70's. This allowed us to take pretty normal showers. You could also look for a small electric unit like they use under the counter or cabinets in many commercial applications and put it in the basement or even under the trailer you would just have to figure out how to get electricity to it.
