RE: SPARE TIRE

As I am waiting tires to arrive prior to leaving out on a multi state trip, I am wondering if I should carry a spare. Dealer ordered tires nearly a month ago, as Michelin had to make new. If I get somewhere and have a blowout, will I be stuck forever waiting on a tire? Do I have a weird size (255/80R22.5), or did I just hit the market crazy? Dealer did say there were a few at one warehouse on East Coast, but not the six I need for full replacement.

RE: Push to privatize National Park Service campgrounds

I am concerned about privatization because when it doesn't work, it is horrible. A state park that I have frequented for years has had most of its operations privatized. They built a big lodge, restaurant and club that does draw in a fair number of visitors to a somewhat remote area, adding to the local economy. On the other hand, they have little concept of running a park/campground, except charing fees. The camping fees have increased, but the bathhouses have not been improved in years and are getting a bit worn. Because it is a state park, the campground checkin and maintenance is part of state park. They use volunteer campground hosts and maintenance hosts, but have not seen big increases from the increased rates, (high demand park and location). They have had their budget for staffing increased (and I know this because I just accepted a volunteer position to make up for for some staffing budget shortfalls they expect during the winter). I have worked for years for the federal government and understand the need for contractors/private vendors but also understand they contracts need to be written VERY carefully so that the mission of the agency is not lost in the process of meeting a budget.

RE: Mail Forwarding services

My traveling Mailbox is less than $200 for a year, I have only had mail sent to me three times since May.. Each time I had them send me things that had accumulated (that I wanted) plus what I was waiting specifically for. They scan what you request be scanned, and forward what you want at the speed/cost you choose. I have chosen 2nd day FEDEX for an envelope full at $8.99 each time. I love being able to manage it all on line... (UPS mailboxes didn't seem to give me that option)

RE: Mail Forwarding services

I use My Traveling Mailbox for a very similar reason. I wanted to keep my GA residency (and I have a physical address I can use, property that is currently my mom's that I will inherit one day) but wanted a mail service with a GA address because it was too much to explain to different states to people that I was changing my mail. So far I have had great service from them, but I did work to eliminate as much mail as possible.

RE: Dometic roof top ac unit

Just had my unit up front replaced. Tech said they don't have a port to add freon and that braising/soldering in a port requires torch within inches of foam insulation. He said he wouldn't take the risk of fire for any amount of money. It took him less than an hour to replace unit and I found several a dealers within a hundred miles (and I am in the middle of RV nowhere land -- only one dealer within 50 miles and most are 70-80 in opposite directions)

RE: Roaming Rvers McKinney Rally Sept. 13-15

I am going to try to join for Friday night, Saturday breakfast but need suggestions for hotel close by. I am situated in Plains Ga volunteering with NPS and will be "working" on Sunday. Too far for MH trip (especially since it would require traveling through Atlanta. I am open to hotel suggestions. Judy

RE: Water hose storage??

I bought two 25ft Zero G-s in March. Only used one so far. I leave end attached to MH fresh water connection and then after draining all water possible put plug on the other end. with no water in it, it easily coils into compartment below connections. I had one of the blue ones from WM for years, but it was stiff if it was cold and I always ended up getting nasty trying to store it. So far the Zero G has solved that problem.

RE: blocks for leveling under jacks and tires

We full time and can't rely on cobbling together wood pads, so we bought these RoadWarrior Jack Pads. that is actually what I was wondering, as I will be fulltiming. Previously I have been lucky enough to be in fairly level sites, so haven't had to stack wood pads.. So are these things you recommend really $25 each? How many would you recommend? I do have four plastic jack pads.. but they are very thin and warp easily.

blocks for leveling under jacks and tires

I've been RVing a long while and primarily used "LEGOS" for under stabilizers in TT. Now have 38ft Class A weighing about 24K lbs and am unsure what to use under auto-leveling jack pads and under tires if they are leaving ground. Are the "LEGOS" strong enough? They are almost the same size as the jack pads (I do have large plastic landing pads for when on dirt or asphalt). What are recommended for under jacks to keep them from having to extend so far? If wood, what size boards? I prefer lighter weight or something that doesn't collect moisture and bugs so easily. I am trying to make a decision between weight and convenience and cost. They will have to be stored in the bins of the MH or inside toad car, as I do not have a truck or open storage for wet, nasty boards..

RE: MCCS Camp Pendleton

I am currently staying at MCCS on MCLB Albany. Much smaller base than Camp Pendleton. No particular different protocol from anywhere else. Except you are on base, so subject to vehicle inspection and security requirements of any Marine Base. You will be required to show ID each time you go through gate, and will likely have to get a temporary pass for Camp Pen. If you carry any type weapon, you need to register it (not sure how Camp Pen and California deal with that issue). My shotgun I had to know serial, model, purchase date and list a secure method of storing. I would check the Marine Base guide for the location to be sure. also check MCCS Camp Pendleton for details.

Florence Marina State Park, GA Nov 1-3 2019

I will be at Florence Marina State Park on November 1-3 (or 4). Asking Roaming RVer's and others to join me for this weekend, as I will not be able to host at AH Stephens the next. Florence Marina is on the Chattahoochee River below Columbus in a very rural area. If enough people are interested, we can book a boat tour of the river. In nearby Omaha, GA, there is a cool little craft brewery and tasting "room" that usually has food trucks and often music. Plan to check out Omaha Brewing Company. Providence Canyons State Recreation Area is nearby and November is a great time to visit the Canyons. Historic Eufaula, AL is less than 30 miles away and offers tours of historic homes. Columbus, GA is only slightly more than 30 miles away and offers a variety of restaurants, the National Infantry Museum (on Ft Benning) and the newly moved and re-opened Historic Westville, an 1850's restored village. I hope others can join me this weekend at Florence.

RE: Roaming RVers rally schedule for 2019

I have had a change in schedule, and will not be able to make AH Stephens on Nov 8. I will however be at Florence Marina State Park on Nov 1 and would like to invite everyone to join in there. If someone wants to take over at AH Stephens that would be fine, I just can't make it.

RE: Roaming RVers July 12-14 at Duckett Mill Campground

I won't make this as I will be starting my retirement by spending the first two weeks of July in NC near my daughter's new home. She is moving to Greensboro area and I will be there to celebrate retirement, Independence Day and my granddaughter's birthday, before taking our annual girl's trip to the beach (Myrtle Beach this year).

RE: Roaming RVers NOV 2019 AH Stephens St Park GA

Shutterbug, I chose site 24 because I was afraid whoever had site 11 would be trying to utilize the picnic shelter when our group might want to use it. Site 11 was my first choice. I was afraid that other sites near the pavillion wouldn't have a big enough "yard" for the group. I will likely change my reservation to 14 so I will be closer, now that I know it is part of our group that is so close to pavillion.

Customer Assistance for ONLINE Orders

Camping World ONLINE order department needs to seriously improve their Customer Assistance skills and processes. On March 19, I placed an on-line order for two items, early in the AM. I didn't mean to complete placing the order until I double checked something, but completed the purchase un-intentionally. I waited about 10-15 minutes for the customer service line to open, as you can't cancel an order on-line, you have to call. I called immediately and after repeatedly being told by rep that the order number I was giving him (from the email I had received) could not be an order number, I finally got him to pull up my order. He said my order was already sent to warehouse (less than 20 min after I hit button). He would have to have his boss contact the warehouse and see if they could stop it. I said that it was hard to believe it couldn't be stopped, but to please try and let me know. I never received another email, indicating that the merchandise had shipped or that the order had been cancelled. When I checked order status on-line it only said my order was being processed. 5 days later I called to check on my order and the person I talked to then, checked my order and was able to cancel it. Today, a full week after I first ordered and requested, I received and email saying a credit will be processed to my card within two to three days. The initial order amount was debited against my card almost immediately (within hours of initial order and cancellation) Changing or cancelling an order should NOT be that difficult and in todays digital marketplace, credits should not take over a week. Please look at these processes and consider some real changes.

Roaming RVers NOV 2019 AH Stephens St Park GA

*****EDIT #2. AMBER AND MATTHEW have agreed to host here, so this campout is still on. Thanks to them for taking over. ****I have had a change in schedule, and will not be able to make AH Stephens on Nov 8. **** A H Stephens State Park is the park selected for November. All who are in the area are welcome to join us for a weekend of fun and food. There is a picnic pavilion we can use if we chose. There are only 25 RV sites, so recommend that all make their reservations in advance (remember GA only requires one night deposit). UGA is at home in Athens that weekend, so sites will likely fill quickly. I will update details when the time gets closer (and we know what time UGA is playing). From the park's website Conveniently located a few miles off of I-20, Visitors can enjoy geocaching, fishing and boating, while also learning about a key officer in the American Civil War. Named after the vice president of the Confederacy and governor of Georgia, A.H. Stephens State Park features a Confederate museum with one of the finest collections of Civil War artifacts in Georgia. Stephens’ home, Liberty Hall, is renovated to its 1875 style, fully furnished and open for tours.

RE: Roaming Rvers McKinney Rally Sept. 13-15

How do I get information on what Roaming Rvers is? I googled it and nothing but dog stories came up. It is a group of RVers in GA. We are an informal group with no "official membership". We camp together about 8 times a year and some weekends there are 8-10 RV's and sometimes only 3-4. Anyone is welcome to join us on our weekends. We each make our own reservations, have a couple of potluck meals together, sometimes we have specific plans but no participation is "required". We have played cards, watched UGA football, learned to make empanadas, picked strawberries... just whatever the location and season suggested and we decided to do. Check out this thread for our plans for 2019.

RE: Is Roadside assistance worth it?

I would say keeping a roadside assistance policy of some brand is imperative. Nice when my truck quit outside of a town I was visiting and I was on the side of a mountain and no clue who could come. Limited cell sevice so internet on phone wasn't working. I called and they found a tow company. Once they identified company, I was able to call and beg for a quick pickup. having someone do the work of calling tow companies and finding someone for me, was well worth the cost. Add in the tow was included in my plan, and it was double worth it. The single tow would have been more than the annual fee for my plan.

RE: Mobile, bounce-powered bucket washer

My son's Boy Scout troop did the five gallon bucket with the plunger when they camped at the National Jamboree. They were there for about two weeks and most did not have 14 Scout uniform shirts, so they washed. Had about 10-12 buckets to share between 40 boys
