Ford for a tow vehicle

Hi all, Looking for a tow vehicle to replace my GMC. I've only been looking at GM products up until now. My current truck has a GMC 5.3 litre and is rated towing capacity of 9500 lbs. What would a close equivalent engine/axle ratio be in a Ford F150. Looking to buy 2016 or newer and not a diesel. Thanks

RE: Tow Vehicle question

Look for the RPO sticker in your glove box. They are listed in alphabetical order. GU6 is 3.42. GT4 is 3.73. G80 is also a popular one for the locking rear diff. When you go to manual mode, can you select M1 through M6? Yes I can select M1 to M6

RE: Tow Vehicle question

Are you sure your 2013 has 3.73? I thought you could only get 3.42 with the 5.3L and 6-spd? 2014+ GM half tons have slightly more HP. I expect it will feel about the same when towing. I was told by the dealer that it was 3.73. I'm tending to doubt that now.

RE: Tow Vehicle question

4.34 gear ratio has to be a typo. What ratio does it really have? If it's numerically lower than a 3.73 then I would say yes, you will notice a difference towing. It will feel less powerful, not accelerate as well, and be harder to keep the speed under control going downhill. If it is numerically higher than 3.73 it will also be noticeable better in all the aforementioned areas. Tight, sorry. 3:42

Tow Vehicle question

Hi all, I have a 2013 GMC Sierra with a 5.3 litre engine and 3.73 ratio rear axle. It has about 76k miles. It has a max tow rating of 9500 lbs. I'm looking at buying a 2018 Siverado under 30k miles with a 5.3 litre engine but 4.34 ratio rear axle and a rated towing capacity of 300 lbs less at 9200 lbs. The 2018 has a few nice bells and whistles that I'd like to treat myself to. Question is will there be a noticeable difference in the newer trucks ability to tow? Will it seem like it is under powered in comparison? My trailer has a dry weight of 5625 lbs and GVWR of 6995 lbs . My current truck does bog down somewhat on the steeps and I really wouldn't be happy if there was a noticeable difference with the new truck pulling the big hills. Advice appreciated. Thanks for reading.

RE: Rear Observation camera

I second the Haloview camera from Amazon, mine is crystal clear even at interstate speeds. I'll check it out. Never heard of it, thanks.

RE: Rear Observation camera

Mine works great, monitor can be hard to see at times and just needs to be slightly adjusted when the light hits it at certain angles, no big deal really. I love the benefits of the camera. What brand and model?

Rear Observation camera

To those of you who have actually bought and used an add on camera I'm looking for a recommendation. I want a rear view camera that works going down the interstate and won't be choppy. Everything I look at says back up camera and upon reading allot of the reviews they are choppy at higher speeds. I'd like to find something that will have a strong enough signal for a 30' TT and under $500.00 if that's possible. Thanks for reading.

RE: Venture Sonic

Hi all, I'm currently looking at a 2017 Venture Sonic 22VRB. It has an interior height of 81" and it is one of the tallest I have seen. I'm 6'2" and it seems like it will fit the bill. I have not seen it in person yet, only photos online. Question is does anyone have this brand that can give me an idea of quality of this brand? Do you like yours?Does it have a decent track record? It has a murphy bed which I am not opposed to but wonder if in general they can be folded up while made up or do you have to remake the bed each night? Other pros or cons to a murphy bed? Thanks. Hi, did you wind up buying the Sonic? I am looking at a 2017 Sonic VRB190 and having a hard time finding reviews on venture travel trailers… Just wondering if you like the trailer overall? Hello, No I did not buy the Sonic. On closer inspection it did not seem to be that well made. I wound up getting an IGO. PM me and I will get more specific if you want.

RV storage

Wasn't sure exactly what forum to post this. I'm looking to store a 26' travel trailer in the Brighton, Mi area for a month or two starting in May. Somewhere there or withing 25 to 50 miles would be good. I would appreciate replies from those of you familiar with the area. I have already looked at craigslist. Thanks

RE: Gettysburg

Thanks to all who replied. We went to the Dobbin's House for dinner and the Seminary museum in addition to spending many hours touring the battlefield.

RE: Gettysburg

There are a number of museums in Gettysburg itself. The National Civil War museum is in Harrisburg, about an hour north. Are you staying in Matamoras on Saturday night? That's a 3.5 hour drive away from Gettysburg. If you are looking to stay in Gettysburg proper I would stay at the Gettysburg hotel. Staying in Gettysburg Friday and Saturday nights. Headed north sometime Sunday maybe Monday.

Gettysburg

Hi all, Traveling without the RV this time. I'm going to be in Gettysburg on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is supposed to be nice but Sunday raining. Any suggestions on something interesting and indoors to do in or near Gettysburg? An hour or so drive would be okay. We'll be touring the battlefield on Saturday and have already been to the Eisenhower Farm. Also anything on the way north to Matamoras, Pa. along the I-81 and I-84 corridor that might be open on Sunday. Mostly interested in historical places like Civil War sites, museums etc Thanks. Staying in Matamoras. Looking at the Hampton Inn but open to suggestions for something better. Rather be rving of course!!
