RE: HOV Lanes in Atlanta GA

I consider my rig is a bus and yes I’ve been using the Atlanta HOV lanes for 16 years but only a couple times/year. You may consider your rig to be a bus, but the state considers it to be a "motorhome" or "house car" or something along those lines. Legally speaking it's neither a bus nor a truck; laws or regulations that apply specifically to trucks and/or busses do not apply to motorhomes. I take the advice from my granddaughter who is married to a LEO & lives in GA - and she says if it looks like a bus and sounds like a bus - it's a bus. Since you don't live in GA - the advice is sound. As long as the OP doesn't pick high traffic times to go thru Atlanta, they should be fine.

RE: Northeast Ohio to Yellowstone with Kids!

What is the best route and stops to make from Akron/Canton area to Yellowstone and back. We have a 41' Fifth wheel. Would prefer not to return the same way we came and would take 12-14 days. Any tips are appreciated! Two weeks is the minimum amount of time. Driving days are long but doable if you have a second driver. If not, do a fly/drive

RE: Glacier National Park to Yellowstone National Park.

Since Fishing Bridge CG indide YNP will be closed, I recommend a very good RV park in West Yellowstone, I forget the name perhaps another reader might recall it. West is a handy place to do all the touring inside YNP and there are things to do inside the town also. Another town to consider is Gardiner on the north side of the park, I'm not familiar with places to stay there however, it's been too long since I've been there. You will want to drive the Beartooth while in the Yellowstone area, but only do it with your tow vehicle, definitely do not take your trailer up on that highway if you want to enjoy the trip. You mean Grizzly? or Yellowstone in Gardiner? Above all don't tow thru the 'Tooth or Going to the Sun roads.

RE: Glacier National Park to Yellowstone National Park.

Fishing Bridge is the only CG with hookup within YNP. West Yellowstone and the area around Gardner MT has some CG with hookups. Take your time and enjoy both parks. Don't forget to visit Grand Teton National Park. Fishing Bridge won't be available. Wasn't last year either.

RE: Best route from Kentucky to Cody, Wyoming

Made this trip dozens of times from as far away as Miami and Savannah. Easiest route with the least mountain exposure and troubles: Lexington to St Peters MO (I75 to I64) St Peters to North Platte (I64-I70 to KC to I29 - exit 10 to NE 2 to avoid Omaha double back) North Platte to Casper (via Bridgeport & Scottsbluff) Casper to Cody (US26 to WY789/120) I used Rand McNally paper maps or online

RE: I-94 through Chicago

We live south of Atlanta and hate taking I-75 through Atlanta but we know it is doable early Saturday or Sunday morning. My question is can you get through Chicago on I-94 early Saturday or Sunday morning. By early I mean around 8-9 AM. A friend said to take I-294 but also said that could be a pain if you do not have an I-pass or equivalent. We will be pulling a 31ft TT. Thanks for any advice. Early Sat or Sun morning? No worries. Unless it's raining or snowing. I used to make that run from Valdosta to Milwaukee - avoided I294

Beartooth Hwy closed

Yep - you read it right. The 'tooth is closed south of Red Lodge due to blowing and drifting snow. I for one am not going to miss snow.

RE: Salt Lake to Elkhart, IA Travel Advice

My wife and I will be taking our 44’ 5th wheel from Salt Lake City to Elkhart, IND in late October for a suspension upgrade at the Morryde facility. We are going to allow ourselves 4 days to get there traveling I-80. Our plan is to boondock along the way with Cheyenne, Omaha, Davenport as our tentative stopping points before reaching Elkhart. Having never driven east on 80 past Lincoln, NE, I am seeking advice on do’s & don’ts along the route into Elkhart. The part that worries me most is around the Chicago area. Any helpful tips or safe places to stay along the route are appreciated! I just did this yesterday (part of it) to deliver my truck/trailer to new owners in Davenport, IA. I continued on I80 with a rental car straight thru and overnighted in Ottawa at Starved Rock SP. Since you won't be going thru or anywhere near Chicago - that's not an issue. Tomorrow we'll be in Middlebury and next week in Atlanta for the flight to Panama.

RE: loosing old members

loosing old members here ???? seem a lot are gone / going any particular reason personally I post way less because of less knowledge on newer campers AND because of sites horrible photo posting process ! whats your opinion /reasons for less participation ??? It's because we older drivers have been ursurped by younger owner/drivers with little or no experience, but who read an article somewhere on the "net" that now makes them the authority. I have been ambushed several times and why you don't see me posting as often. I've got five million accident free miles as of last month. I used to spend many years pulling cars, pickups, big trucks and a few rv's from ditches and hung up on guardrails. I know what I'm talking about but recently I was pm'ed and told not to post this because I was out of touch. Just recently my youngest decided rv'ing was not for her anymore and bought an old boat. Well she has lived in So America for 30 yrs. She knows the territory and lack of roads quite well. There's more water than roads. For her it was a wise decision. It made sense. Announcing here on the forums - you'd have thought she was a traitor. It was just her way of saying goodbye. Well for me, I sold my sig rig yesterday and I'll be returning to my sailboat in Panama. So Robert Ryan you may be seeing this old cowboy down under sometime in the future. But for now, goodbye and good luck.

RE: I didn't buy an RV

He managed to extricate himself from the wreckage which is probably when he twisted his back. And walk back UP Mulholland to his house. It was only then that his wife called for help.

RE: I didn't buy an RV

Been there done that with the boat thing. Got tired of burning 25 gal a hour of fuel. Well, that happens in speedboats. My Skookum burns 1 gal/hr at 6.5kts

RE: I didn't buy an RV

An RV is easier to handle than a boat.......just don't understand this post. All that rocking back and forth if the waters are rough. Once the RV is parked, it's stable. RV's - good ones don't rock - but in strong Chinook winds just about everything moves around. If you have a "steel" body construction vehicle like a Bluebird - now that's a stable platform. It hardly moves at all. Boats - I have a 53ft Skookum in Panama - it loves high winds and I don't get sea sick as I would on slow moving trawler or tug. I sailed it from Seattle to Panama by myself and learned along the way. Self taught sailor, I now have an ASA cert - I didn't start out with. Just kinda winged it. GR421 - you'll be happy with your solid purchase. I know I am - after 66 yrs of living on land, I'm heading back to Panama in my hurricane hole. Maybe we will cross paths sometime at Allbrook.

RE: Casper Wy to Cody Wy via US 20

I went thru there last week at 13.6 dead center following a gypsum belly dumper and a Wilson cattle truck behind me. I don't see what the problem is. If you're scared take another route. But this is fastest and flattest way to Cody.
