Some days it is barely worthwhile to get out of bed...
The temp got above freezing today (43 right now), so I went out and started the plow ATV. Yep, dag-nab thing just fired right up!
So, away we went to plow snow.
Just as I got my driveway pretty much done, the engine overheated. The fan doesn't seem to be working.
then the winch (plow lift) cable broke.
So, I figured that was a good time to go get the gas can filled.
Got that done, filled the ATV tank, tied the cable together temporarily, finished the driveway, and put things away until I can get the fan thermo-switch (or whatever) replaced. And the cable fixed properly, of course.
The lane will have to wait to get plowed.
I guess I should look on the bright side: This might be a real good time to replace the steel winch cable with a poly rope!

so, the weather warmed up to above freezing, and I got the ATV started.
Plowed the driveway, and just started on the lane, and the engine overheated.
So, I let it cool while I went and got a can of gas.
Filled the tank on the ATV, went back to work, and the engine overheated again.
The electric fan is not working. I'm not sure if it is the thermal switch (that was the problem on the other one), or something else.
Then the winch (plow lift) cable broke.
Now, we have about 6 inches of fresh powder snow to deal with.
The temperature is a nice even ZERO.
HURRY UP SPRING!!

I repaired the winch cable yesterday, then plowed until the rig overheated. Let it cool, and plowed some more. It took all day, but I got it pretty well done.
This morning; 22 degrees below zero.
BUT, no new snow.
I don't even want to go outside!

It has been pointed out to me that my next post will be number 26,000 since June of 2003.
Why wait? Here it is, number 26,000.
That is just under 5 per day for almost 15 years. Some would say I spend too much time here...
It warmed up some today, 34 degrees currently. 5 more weeks of winter. I will be glad to see it gone, although I'm not real excited about the coming 100 degree temps. The Spring time 60s and 70 will certainly be welcome!
Edited a couple months later to change "1003" to 2003.

Ah, Springtime in Montana!
We woke up this 2nd of April morning to 4 inches of fresh snow, and 28 degrees.
It is still snowing.

Well, Jim, it seems old age and bad living is catching up with me.
My left leg has been creating problems, and using a clutch is becoming painful and unstable, so I had to go shopping for a good, used, automatic transmission truck.
Luckily, (I hope), I found another 1999 Dodge CTD quad cab. This one is a long box, so the extra length may take some getting used to. It is high mileage, but low priced, which is OK in my book. I should be able to close the deal and have the truck in a few days, depending on how quickly the seller's bank and my Credit Union can co-ordinate the paperwork.
Now, if the weather would behave so I can take my radio and antennas off the old truck and transfer to the "new-to-me" truck. Average temps this time of year are supposed to be in the lower 50s, and we have been lucky to make the upper 30s, plus it keeps snowing. 28 degrees and snowing right now!
Some say we are now in "Sprinter"; that is, Spring plus Winter.

Congrats on your new truck Jon! Weather down here in TX took a cold turn today... it’s 46 right now, 9:50PM CT . Will last through morning then get back to normal this coming week. You take care of that leg buddy. Hope everything will be ok with the truck and you can get your radio and antenna installed. Everything is good here and we plan on heading back to WVa around 4th of May. That’s the plan
Take care of yourself Jon.

Later,
Jim

28 degrees this morning, with less than a quarter inch of new snow.
I've been trying to get the driveway shoveled so we can use the car. The ATV appears to have a fuel leak, so the tank is empty. so are the gas cans! Poor planning on my part, for sure.
The snow will melt this week (temps supposed to be in the upper 40s/lower 50s), but we need the car tomorrow.
We're thinking about buying a Toro snow thrower (the one with the rubber paddles) to use on the concrete driveway and front walkway. electric start, of course. The ATV plow doesn't clean to the concrete, and the snow plow operator backed into the garage door (broke the handle), and the back of the truck (broke the right taillight). I may have to fire that guy, or restrict him to the unpaved half of the driveway, and the lane.

Little nippy this mornin, temp 45. Got up to 56... not normal but through next week, highs will be upper. 70’s, low 80’s. Lows , upper 50’s to mid 60’s.

Better hold on to that guy Jon... at least you know him (;
Hope you and your wife are well.
