A small electric works well, and doesn't attract as much attention. (wanted or not). Remember that many places National and state parks, prohibit wood cutting, though most have no problem with gathering fallen stuff.

Not too many places allow people to cut trees or gather firewood. Many campgrounds do not...State Parks or National Parks don't either. If you travel much, you can't transport firewood from one state to another. If you're just a weekend camper....buy it from various places like walmart, Grocery stores,etc

Not sure where you are planning to camp that will allow the use of a chain saw. We camp a lot in WA and OR State and private parks...
