The pics I saw looked otherwise. I wasn't there. This is the key takeaway stated by NASCAR.
"Though the official numbers are not yet known, NASCAR indicated nearly 70% of people purchasing tickets to the event are new to the sport. With the addition of an entertainment lineup featuring Pitbull, Ice Cube and DJ Skee, the occasion looks set to be a crowd-puller."
This from Forbes.
"While NASCAR does not divulge attendance figures, according to an industry source close to the event, ticket sales hovered around 50,000 heading into the week of the race, with the hope of topping out at 60,000 – a near-sellout given seats that had to be covered close to the track for safety purposes."
I will be in Daytona so of course rain is scheduled. Can't win but going anyway. Guys nights out if nothing else.

Thank you sir.
Chatty Cathy may be gone from the booth but "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity, let's go racing boys" still resonates
Just checked the weather again. Things are looking up.

I see a bad harbinger of things to come in terms of racing quality. NASCAR is pandering to the bang bang racing product and this car looks to play right into their scheme. Prepare to witness never ending races with restart after restart since contact with the wall and other cars doesn't put a car out of the race. Even the commentators during the second LCQ were like when will this end. Martinsville is gonna be a poor show.

Basically, it's the design of super speedways that are incapable of producing good racing. But, we already knew it,.....right? On the positive side, NO MORE stupid loose or missing log nuts all over the place! I'll be watching the Duels, on Thursday.

Cloud, we know your position on superspeedway racing, what is your take on the LA "show" shorter than short track?

The Coliseum? The track should have been dirt and the cars should have been modified dirt machines. Didn't most of these drivers cut their racing teeth on dirt?

I didn't see the show. That little track was about the size of the Tulsa indoor track where the Chili Bowl race for mighty midgets is held. For the purpose of optimizing the potential quality of racing by properly matching the configuration of the racetrack to the potential performance of the racecar,....IS A KNOWN SCIENCE. I proved it when I designed and built and operated El Paso Speedway Park, in 1978.

Last night, I saw the re-airing of the LA "show". I didn't see good racing, but I was totally impressed with how successful it was for NASCAR and for the promoters. NASCAR is alive and well. GO KYLE BUSCH
I also watch the "Duels". Didn't see good racing there either. But, the crowd was bigger than I had expected. Now, I'm thinking I'll just watch the last 25 laps of the Daytona 500.....
I'll put my money on Kyle Larson, while favoring Kyle Busch. I expect it'll be a contest to determine who has the best-performing racecar.
