It was about his seatbelt. NASCAR said the seatbelt failed and Simpson said it was improperly installed. He eventually dropped it.

Simpson's harness was blamed because of fraying/tearing of the left side webbing found when Earnhardt was extricated from the car. After Simpson was savaged publicly, Earnhardt's habit of loosening the harness became public knowledge. What he did refuse to use/wear was the HANS device as you pointed out and a full face helmet.

Simpson and NASCAR reached a confidential out of court settlement in 2003.

Hailie Deegan moves to a Ford
Hope she is a new Danica with some wins. If so I don’t think it would be long until she goes to the Xfinity

Lets also hope she isn't trashed by some like Danica was on and off the track. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders.

I watched a podcast of her with Dale and Kelly Earnhardt. In my opinion she needs to tone down the bragging a little bit. She's forgetting that these old men she is bashing are the ones who are advancing her up the ranks.
I do wish her well but like the men she needs to earn her way. It's a long way to Cup.

We lived in Wilkesboro for a couple of years back in the early 80s. You'd see him around town just like he was anybody else. Not a stuck up bone in his body. RIP Junior.

Never forget when "Jaws" was driving for Junior and won the Allstar race at Charlotte and all race long was walking the dog. On the backstretch after the checkered flag, old "DW" hit the clutch, over revved the motor and detonated it. I think NASCAR spent close to the same time going over Junior's cars as they went thru inspection as they did with Smokey Yunick's years before.

Yes, Junior was one of many who proved that you need a winning racecar PLUS a winning driver in order to have the best chance of winning the race. RIP
