RV living at a motel?

I'm in DC visiting family and noticed a schoolie parked in the back lot of my hotel when I arrived, generator running and lights on inside.

They've been here all month the gal in the office indicated. They're not staying at the hotel but have an arrangement with management.

Is this camping, or being homeless, or something else?

I'm on my phone at the moment, can't post a pic, will do so later from the laptop.

Most likely the motel owner is a room or 2 from going broke and may need the extra few bucks from the school bus, or exchange for work.
I can understand it looking tacky, and make one wonder.
If it were a $150.000 rig parked there likely nobody would notice.
I have an older rv.
We at times get looks from the cardboard people in the big $ coaches lol


Reminds me of an RV park we once pulled into late at night.
Was not til morning did we recognize many rv's sported shanty wooden porches and covered under a couple of generations of tarping.

A lot of assumptions being made here. No telling what kind of arrangement the have with the hotel or why they are there. I won't make any guess nor do I care to. If the OP REALLY wants to know, go knock on their door and ask.

Seems a pretty simple way to me to find out what is going on.

Here's the schoolie, kind of interesting looking, shorter wheelbase than I've seen around, but longer than a "short bus".



I don't have any concerns, just curious I guess. My only hope is they're not dumping into the little creek running along the edge of the parking lot. It's been 90+F the past 10 days here, hopefully the occupants have someplace cool to go during the day.

Not that uncommon in my neck of the woods. Usually seasonal workers or traveling construction / maintenance workers. Most will pay a small fee for parking and then agree to patronize the hotel restaurant and bar. You will see them pull out and go dump at a local campground and then back to the parking lot. Some stay a few days others will stay months.

I would think if you are living in the back lot of a motel it's not for fun it's out of necessity. If they are not bothering anyone, leave them alone. Don't think I would trade them for a nice camp space at the lake.
