Power only on shore power

Hey everyone,

We went camping last week (connected to shore power) towed the camper home and when I tried run the run the electric hitch, I discovered it would only run when connected to the electric at the house. The lights, awning and slide would also only work when connected to shore power.

Any ideas why this isn't running anything on the batteries ( I have two with a A/B marine switch and both batteries are on and fully charged.

I'm actually out of town until Friday, so if anyone replys with a potential solution, I won't be able to look at the camper until the weekend.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Deano

It turns out it was a loose connection on one of the battery terminals.

Thanks for the suggestions on what to look for!

What does the battery monitor show with the shore power disconnected?

Slide and tongue jack are wired directly from battery POS and they work when using shore/gen so fuses good/disconnect on.......
Leaves batteries either dead or bad ground

At least that is what it sounds like from my computer screen :B

Battery's, converter or both dead. Need to check voltage levels.

Also closely inspect and clean all the 12 volt connections paying particular attention to the ground strap from battery to frame.

Check for a battery disconnect switch. On my camper, it's near the converter.

The positive battery cable runs from the battery to a junction box under the camper. This is where the power enters the camper. Somewhere between the two, look for an inline fuse (probably 30 amp) or a short stop breaker (looks like this).

Some short stop breakers will auto reset when the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some have a manual reset button, and some cannot be reset. They are available at RV dealers, most auto parts stores, and possibly stores where auto maintenance is performed.

What you are describing, sounds like a blown fuse.

Do you have a cutoff switch or a inline fuse near the battery?

You need to verify voltage at the battery terminals.

You have an A/B switch but is there a disconnect switch somewhere?

Are you sure batteries are charged----or do they show good voltage but can't actually hold a load??

Shore power/gen supply AC power to converter which supplies the DC System so voltage stays up.

W/O Shore/Gen..what is voltage AT batteries?
What does voltage due when you try any of those DC items?

Battery NEG connection to ground....clean/tight?

Otherwise..pull them and have them load tested at any auto parts place
