New Cyclone at RV Show

So we decided to go out to one of the Indian Casinos east of San Diego advertising a "huge" RV show (not) to look at Toy Haulers. Just trying to see as many layouts as we can trying to decide on making the switch from our Cabover Truck Camper to a Toy Hauler. I'm inside a brand new Cyclone (while DW was outside) when I hear this god-aweful ruckess, crash-bang I'm thinking the whole trailer is collapsing with me in it. I go running out of the thing only to find out that the rear patio awning (over the porch) blew OFF the trailer and landed on top of the trailer (thank God - as no one was in its path and hurt). Now there was a very slight breeze blowing (and I mean slight) and it maybe gusted to 5 mph if that. We notified one of the show workers there and he just kinda blew it off (pun intended) and said "yeah it happens all the time, you can't have those awnings out with any kind of wind". Well, even under 10 mph breeze? A second salesperson said the same thing - "oh yeah those awnings are like that". REALLY???

Should we believe them? If so, what's the use of having a rear awning? Anyone else have this kind of experience? Was this a fluke? Salespersons seemed to think this was an everyday occurance. In fact, one of them said "that's what insurance is for".

I'd be pretty upset if I just paid $70,000.00 (discount price marked for the show) for a 5th Toy Hauler and lost the electric awning on the first outing. What's the deal??

We owned a Cyclone and yes we had awning issues. Our awning blew on top of our 5th wheel and put a hole in the roof... There was very little wind.

Never had a problem with mine yet. They don't have the lower supports that typical awnings have though so I am more careful with it. General common sense though if it's storming out or especially gusty then none of the awnings are out.

We don't have a Cyclone, but we do keep a closer eye on our rear awning compared to the side. It doesn't have the same structure as the side one, so it doesn't seem to be as sturdy as the side one... it has no flexing at all. But it also wouldn't blow off in 5-10mph winds either.

...I have been around a day or two as well...and I know the story...from what was posted here and the other side...Cyclone sales last year were almost 3000 units...

I also know a bit about bad customer support and poor service...but sometimes you have to move on...and I did...have not beat the drum for years...

Not sure I'd say the members issue was sour grapes, he had major issues and a lack of support. He's been around here along time.

I'm not sure where you are getting your sales numbers but I am very doubtful of any manufacturer claiming to be the number one of anything that isn't verified by an outside source.

...lots of sour grapes out there...Cyclone has been the number one Brand in Toy Haulers for years...almost 700 more than any other brand last year..lot of them out there with very happy owners having only the typical things related to running an earthquake down the road happening...

We have an awning over our rear deck and have had zero issues in three years. It's been out with a constant 10-15 mph wind. It comes out when we set up and goes in when we go home. I've pulled it in for severe storms but then we will leave it out about 2' to keep rain off the sliding glass door.

Maybe its one of those things that could happen to any model. But we had a Cyclone for two years. I'm not surprised at any kind of failure with a Cyclone.
