If you're new to boondocking, or even if you're a veteran, finding that perfect spot can be a challenge -- especially if you're in unfamiliar territory. My new video released today on the Grand Adventure YouTube channel provides some tips and techniques on finding that perfect spot:

Indeed, it's always a tough call.

Nice shots. I'm kinda bummed that we just switched to a bigger trailer (almost 39') and can't get to some of the better spots anymore.

LOL! Yes indeed, almost the exact same spot. I was on the designated dog beach to let the dogs swim a bit off leash.

Also, not to hijack the thread -- but someone mentioned the Mirror Lake area in the Uintas. There is a lot of great boondocking up there, if you have a high clearance trailer and some patience -- the roads are really rough, as are the boondocking sites. If you're interested, here is a link to our blog post -- lots of photos:

Gosh, don't be sorry -- those are excellent shots!! There is a sticky thread on the boondocking home page titled "your favorite boondocking pics." You might want to post those shots (and others!) on that thread.

Also, if you have a website or a youtube channel, I think you can modify your signature so that the links show up whenever you post. My blog links are in my signature. They don't always show up -- only on my first post in a thread. After that, there is something in the site's software that edits them out, which is fine.

The Uinta Mountains are one of my favorite places in this region. Long before acquiring an RV, we took many backpacking trips up there and we usually ski up there when the road first opens around Memorial Day each year. What annoys me about Mirror Lake Highway now as an RV'er is that there are precious few places up there to get an RV into that aren't in a campground, and aren't right next to the busy road. Many, if not most of the Forest Service side roads in that area are just too rough -- for example, Murdock Basin or Alexander Lake. One great spot up there that we camped at this summer, prior to starting the YouTube channel (so I've got no footage) is Whitney Reservoir. That's about 9 miles off UT-150 on a reasonable dirt road, and has ample waterfront boondocking.

Our camp at Whitney Reservoir

We also enjoyed Lyman Lake, which you access via Mountain View, WY even though it's only about 15 miles east of UT-150 and on the Utah side of the border. It's easier than coming in off Mirror Lake Highway.

Our camp at Lyman Lake.

Crossing back into Utah from Wyoming, en route to Lyman Lake.

In fact, I'm somewhat frustrated that we took many great trips this summer including the Sawtooth Mountains of central Idaho, the San Juan mountains of southwestern Colorado, etc., that were before I got the concept for this YouTube channel and before I bought the drone and other cameras. Not only would they have made wonderful episodes with stunning scenery, but I also would've had a ton more episodes to last the whole winter into next camping season.

Sorry, y'all...I kind of got on a roll there. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
