We are Canadians and this will be our first time going into Mexico with our Motorhome and tow. I believe you need Mexican car insurance and a visitor card as Canadians we dont need a visa. We would appreciate any information on how and where we obtain the car insurance and the visitor card. We are presently in Yuma Arizona and wonder what is the best border crossing to use. All and any information will be very much appreciated. We also have a small dog we already have her rabies certificate and health certificate from Canada which we got before we came to the USA on Nov 2, 2017 is there anything else we would require. Thank you to all.

Great idea!
Where do you want to go?
What are you driving?
That will give you specific answers.

The OP should start over: Tell us about your rig. Then where you would like to go and for how long AS Russ posted Kino and San Carlos are not part of the free zone. They are in the no hassle zone. Different rules. Good questions get good answers.

Well then let's put it this way, if you are coming to Puerto Penasco, all you need to do is make sure your dog certs are in order, make sure your name is on the registration for any thing you are bringing down as far as vehicles trailers...and simply drive down from Lukeville. No TIP or anything is necessary if your destination is Penasco. This does not apply pretty much anywhere else.

You are getting a lot of misinformation here, mostly because you didn't give enough information about destination and duration.

There's a big difference between going to Puerto Penasco and going to Kino Bay or San Carlos.

You will need the 10 year RV permit in the no hassle zone. But no deposit(bond). There is no charge for the good times!

We are all trying to help, and forgetting to say one thing: We all LOVE Mexico, and want you to have a great time and enjoy your experience. Read as much as you can, decide what you want to see and do and allow yourselves more time than you think you'll need. With any luck, you will become so interested in this country that you will visit again and again!

If you are headed for Puerto Penasco or Rocky Point, one route to take is to head to Lukeville, AZ. Off I-8 turn off at Gila Bend and head straight south on Az 85and pass through Lukeville to Sonoyta, Sonora (the Mexican border point) for heading to Rocky Point. Head south west on MX 8. If heading SE, you are going towards Santa Anna so you're on the wrong road, it will take you eventually into Mainland Pacific Mexico. If you think you might do that, you will need to get a 10-year pass and sticker for your motor home, and import (temperarily) your towed vehicle, and post a deposit on it with a credit card, either 200.00/400.00/ or 600.00 depending on its age. Once you pass through the border going north, you will get that deposit back onto your card in a few hours.

But in the Hassel-free Zone, that does not apply. You will only need to get, and pay for, a tourist pass, the FFM, and buy a ten year pass for your motor home, but wait - not sure about that!for the Hassel free zone. This will allow it to enter without further payment if you plan to enter again with the same motor home. (If you plan to sell it, or even if there is that possibility, be sure to turn your 10 year permit in at the time you leave Mexico.) And of course, present your Passport.

The Andrade, USA crossing is next to Los Algodonas, Mexico, the signage you will see from I-8. It may be the shorter way, and can be congested at times. But it also opens the possibility to visit San Felipe, Baja (hooking up to #5) or checking out Gulfo de Santa clara on the Sea of Cortes, or bypassing it to travel through the Altar Dessert, to get to Rocky Point. Highway 2 in the north will also get you to Sonoyta, then turn south on 8 for Rocky Point, all these roads are in Mexico. I liked the road through the Desert!

Go online to get your insurance. You may be entitle to a rebate during the time in Mexico when Your Canadian insurance is null and void. You will need verification to place you in Mexico for the isurance companies.I concur with Moisheh that Lewis and Lewis is a good broker for Mexican insurance.

If someone wants to be tough, your dog health certificate must be dated no more than 10 days before you enter Mexico. It's a technicality, but at Sonoyta they check carefully. Most other places don't care.

You should explain what you mean by the free zone. Where will you be going and what do you have for an RV? Have you looked at the excellent articles at the beginning of this forum? Lewis and Lewis are my choice for insurance.
