I guess Costco will get most of their customers now.

Not at all surprising that the Anchorage / Alaska stores closed: Sam's here simply didn't have the selection or services that Costco offers.....which is a bit too bad as Sam's Club (or it's predecessor(s)) opened the discount warehouse box store market in Anchorage.

Yeah, the first notice I saw said hundreds, and shortly was changed to dozens. Guess "dozens" just doesn't have "Gee Whiz" effect of "hundreds". It's a wonder they didn't open with "thousands" or "tens of thousands".

Interesting that Walmart was out tooting their horn that they were going to raise starting wages to a whooping $11/hr. They didn't toot so much about closing their stores.

So far the Sam's closest to us is staying open but with BJs and Costco just as close I think it's time to switch. Never been a fan of WalMart's predatory business practices.

The retail business is tuff for sure, preform or close. Sear"s and Sear's holding is closing many K-Mart and Sera's stores. Macy's and JP Penny's are closing.

The article in the newspaper this morning said 63 of the 660 stores will close.

Sams is a Walton Family (Wal*Mart) operation. they were just handed a BIG tax break/bonus to help them increase wages and open more stores.. See how they respond.

Costco pays their workers far better than Sam's and the CEO takes a very modest salary, Enough so that other CEO's are begging him to take more cause he is making them look like the thieves they are.. Well, they could take less if they want to look better, and improve worker wages.

So I'm not offended that Costco is doing even better..
