I went to pay my rv insurance and it almost doubled due to a claim I made. I called to try to ask why so much but they said because of claim. They gave me a quote through Progressive but it was about the same. They said claim will be on my record for three years

Sad but true. Charged a penalty for using some of the money you've paid in over the years.

At one time I had National General. Had a claim that they filed as a moving violation (long story). When renewal came, renewal amount was for $10 more than the entire claim. Hmmmm, funny thing about that.
No, I don't have them any more.

Talked with another company, spoke with the underwriter, explained situation with the claim. Got quote for slightly less than I was paying before the claim.

Due to depreciation the above opinions are now worth less than what you paid for them.

We are all good at something.....
I just happen to be a good bad example.

Sad to say that is the norm, you get taken before you need it and even worse after. [emoticon]

Everyone should get a copy of their CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) Report every year. It's free once a year. I've found errors in mine a few times when I've checked.

Makes sense, those who make claims are higher risks.

Of course, insurance on the trailer is so cheap, even doubled it's not a big issue.

LOL........You do get accident forgiveness. The "rate" does not go up. What happens is you lose your accident free and safe driver "discounts", or whatever your specific carrier calls them. The loss of the discounts is typically more money than what a rate increase would be. Also some will deny reinstating those discounts for 5 years, not 3. That's their way of skating around 3 year surcharge limits that are imposed by some state regulators.

"Accident Forgiveness" is also usually tied to a whole host of fine print outs. One $10 parking ticket is usually enough for them to deny it totally when a claim is filed.

2015 GMC 2500HD SLE Z71 DCLB It's got a cop motor, a three hundred and sixty six cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas.

Your rate increase is helping to pay for all the other claims they had to pay out for last years storm damage. If they can match rate increases to payouts over the next X years, it keeps the shareholders fat and happy. Rinse and repeat.

Just like health insurance. If you have a preexisting condition your rates are high or they won't have you at all.
