Are there any 12 volt LP gas fridges that will run if the 12 volt battery dies, or are all new models dependent on having this?

some of the compact ones (small) don't have a 12v brain and need no 12v to operate via propane.

But if the pilot light blows out......you're screwed if you don't notice.

The smaller units in pups don't require 12 volts to run. This limits you to about 2.5 cu ft.

The Mennonites around my area have big propane freezers and fridges without 12V (unless it is built in somehow not obvious?). You might investigate what they or some of the Amish use.

Out of curiosity I dug around and found this web site that sells all manner of propane refrigeration:

Lehman's

The brochure for the Diamond brand shows no input or location for a control board, so it doesn't appear to need 12V. But it does use 9V batteries for the LED interior lights.

I had a 5 cu ft Dometic RM 2510 that only required 12V to fire the ignitor, not to run. There are similar size models that use a push button piezoelectric ignitor that require no 12V at all - saw one in a 2010 Scamp 16, but didn't check the model #.

You might check around with used RV parts places. Some of the older models didn't need 12v.

We had one on our 1996 boat.

12 VOLT RV refers require 12 volts to stay running. You will not find an RV refer above 5 CF that will run without 12 volts connected. Below 6 CF, they have a few models that do not require 12 volts when on LP. Doug
