20 pounds over

Just got weighed Friday morning. I was fearful of being worse, but ended up being 20 pounds over on my truck's GVWR. I know for sure I had more than 20 pounds worth of tools in the bed as it was our shake down trip and I wanted to be prepared to fix stuff. Unfortunately, this fiver has no rear storage compartment, so I've got to store some stuff inside to lighten the pin weight. The splendide washer/dryer right over the pin doesn't help much.

This is with wife, two teenage boys and two medium-ish dogs on board

The below weights were with full tank of diesel and full fresh water tank as well as full propane. Empty grey/black tanks

Steer Axle - 5200
Drive Axle - 6120
Trailer Axles - 10740 (dual 8000 pound axles)

Truck front GAWR - 5200
Truck Rear GAWR - 6730
Truck GVWR - 11300

20# over GVWR- I wouldn't worry at all.

While this doesn't mean it is OK to do, over on the truck camper forum there are folks running 1000# and more over GVWR. And they have been doing it for thousands of miles without incident.

The important figure is axle weight, most frequently limited by tire and rim rating.

I had tires rated to 3970# each when carrying the Eagle Cap truck camper. Way over GVWR but under on RAWR.

Easy! solution to make those 20 pounds (on the scale) disappear!

Fill tires with helium..:S

BTW - If the forum weight police are on a tiff (what else is new) -
fill them with helium too!!..

Put the teenagers in the FW and you're under your GVW. Probably less annoying, too. :B:B:B:B

While you are correct in what the linked document says, my sticker does say 5200. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Interestingly that document has this comment talking selection of springs. So the chart says what you have including maybe NOT! Bit hard to fully understand their meaning. However it does state GAWR upgrades. Upgrades from what? The chart? Looks like you rating can be blamed on "standard computer Selection". Darn Computers!!!

"NOTE:The standard front spring/GAWR on Pickup models is computer-selected based on the total front weight of options ordered. Front spring/
GAWR upgrades range from 3800 lbs. to 5250 lbs. (4x2) and 4400 lbs. to 6000 lbs. (4x4). Certain option packages include the following
front spring/GAWR upgrades: Heavy Service Front Suspension Package and Heavy Service Package For Pickup Box Delete — Front springs/
GAWR will be selected 1 upgrade higher than standard computer selection; Camper Package — Front springs/GAWR will be selected 2
upgrades higher than standard computer selection on 4x2 models and 1 upgrade higher than standard computer selection on 4x4 models;
Snowplow Package — Front springs/GAWR is assigned or specifically selected as shown in the chart above. Front spring/GAWR upgrade is
not included if the maximum front spring has been computer-selected as a consequence of options ordered."

I can't carry water but that's because of my 5ers GVWR not the truck.

Are the axle weight rating different for '13's than '15's? My '15's front axle is rated for 6,000 and rear for 7,000, If they are the same, I don't see where OP has anything to worry about. If different, we need to know what exactly each axle is rated for and then w/ 5er attached to see the differences in weight. Based on OP's post, I'm confused.

Surprising the number of people who think the GVWR is a legal weight and they'll argue to the death that it is a legal weight. They haven't read a single statute on weight laws and have not a bit of training in weight laws but they 'know' it's true because they think it is.
It's a new camping season. They come out every spring.

That is why I was questioning the Axle Numbers and Axle Weight Ratings in my earlier post.

Most truck scales weigh in 20# increments, so you are probably 1 to 19 pounds over. A good dump at the truck stop, might just get er done.

That's a better idea than dropping one of my kids off at the orphanage. They did not find that idea amusing.
