Hello All,
I'm having a hard time finding a campground in the Lake Tahoe area. Most of those I pull up in the books have ratings of 4 and 5, and I usually wont go to a place that isnt 7s and up. Any suggestions on where to camp in Lake Tahoe area? Would love to be close to the casinos, but within driving distance will do fine. HELP!!

Boondocking in a casino parking lot would be the last choice on my list unless I was addicted to gambling.

Lake Tahoe is a fun place to visit in summer.... for a day. Look around and then head for the hills. There are lots of nice smaller lakes in the Sierras.

Smart!

Can't we all just get along?

Tahoe + in-season = expensive. Good luck trying to find cheap camping with full hook up in season in Tahoe!

luvmydogs,
IN order to begin to get away from people you have to get away from Lake Tahoe. The Lake it at around 6,200 feet and cooler than many places. Go higher and you won't need AC. There are some big campgrounds over by Truckee and up Route 89. I like the area around Carson Pass.

Wish I could boondock, but I have animals so AC is a must. PPine where up in the mountains is there to go away from all the tourists?

I live 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe but rarely go there in the summer because it is loved to death. I had a sailboat at Tahoe Keys and enjoyed time on the water and camping by boat because it is mostly quiet.

There are a few campgrounds that local people like including Sand Harbor, Sugar Pine Pt and Camp Richardson. The demand for them is high and people usually need to call well in advance and keep calling in order to take over someone's cancellation. I would rather boondock in the mountains away from the lake.

If all else fails you can always boondock in one of the casino parking lots. Most of them don't mind as they want you to spend your money there.

Best campground there, bar none. We drive up from Reno just to get away and stay a couple days. Getting to be the time of year that they are full, though.
