Honda 2000i storage idea

Now that my trailer has a large capacity solar sysyem, the only time I use my Honda 2000i generator is for AirConditioning and my wifes hair dryer.

I usually haul a pair of Honda 2000i generators in the bed of the truck. Even though the truck has a cap, the dust still gets into everything while on the road.

Searching at Home Depot for a solution, with tape measure in hand, I found RUBBER MAID #0141 / #42 (these are the numbers on the bottom) totes with covers.

When I put the Honda into the tote they fit perfectly! But the covers had a slight bulge as the generators are about a 1/2" too tall for these totes.

A solution was to cut a strip out of the top to accomodate the Honda's handle and then cover with a piece of plywood sealed with Dicor.

A couple coats of clear finish and done....

Now they are protected during transport, and the totes with the new top make great tables when sitting around camp.....Nice!

Nah, this is a perfect fit ...

... and now I remember why I didn't buy that Action Packer - too BIG, 24 gal vs 18 gal for the smaller Rubbermaid 2215 ... all I had to do was make adjustments for the handle. :W

Put a padded top on, it doubles as a campsite ottoman....

I have lots of weight challenged friends......this wouldnโ€™t be a good idea. But would make for some great YouTube videos!

Kidding aside, a good side benefit to having it in a tote of some type is even in a pu with a cap, it keeps it hidden from view so some knucklehead doesnโ€™t bust a window and haul it away.

Call me cheap, but I just blow the dust off the generator when I want to use it.

I stored my EU2000i in my heated workshop so I needed a way to prevent oil / gas fumes from escaping ... the sealed lid on the bin I used worked quite effectively for this.

Although I normally transported the genset in the back of my truck I could have just as easily stored it inside the camper and not had to worry about these fumes there either.

BTDT years ago with my own EU2000i. Rubbermaid bin #2215 sold both here in Canada and the US is a perfect fit but not quite tall enough to clear the handle. Easy fix - a series of 7 pics start here.

Is there any verbiage to understand what you are doing?

Good job!

As it says at the beginning of my gallery click the "i" at the top right of any individual pic and you'll see the accompanying text. Wish it would display all the time but that's how Google Photos functions.

As for washing laundry in my toilet - hey, I thought it was a great idea! :W

FWIW, you can edit the size of your pics to something more reasonable by adding "width=600" (or some similar number) just after .jpg

Of course my Honda 2000 looks like itโ€™s been dragged behind a truck. Thatโ€™s what $400 on CL buys.

Whatโ€™s the point of putting a generator in a carrying case? Unless maybe itโ€™s being stored in the camper or truck cab?
Does it not get dusty or dirty when camping, like the truck bed?

I guess I could see it as a security measure, out of sight out of mind type thing but the plywood glued to the Rubbermaid would be out of place for that scenario.
