Mexican Luxury Lemonade

This isn't from La Abuela's kitchen...

It is a newfangled recipe (receta)...

But the taste is outrageous as proven by comments from folks who drink it.

Needed

Mexican limones. Heavy YELLOW limones are mature and taste better.
A hand limon squeezer

An "endulzante (sweetener)" like LA MADRILENA (Mexico) or KARO SYRUP.

Carnonated water. Like Penafiel, or club soda.

Ice cubes

==================================================================================================================================

16 oz mug An even bigher mug (called a TARO in Mexico)

Squeeze five medium linones into the mug

Fill mug with club soda

Bit by bit add syrup to just take the sharper tang off the limon. I prefer lots and lots of limon -- maybe seven or eight. It means adding more syrup to achieve the same taste. Good lip pucker power helps relieve thirst.

Don't be afraid to make the drink strong then temper with extra sweetener. This ain't Kool Aid for a ten-yer-old.

Bitter bitter cold meaning freezer chilling of the ingredients makes the limonaide outrageous. Will burn the back of the throat going down.

Danged near ecstasy in hot weather.

Beware of endulzantes artificiales. (artificial sweeteners)

Read the package before you buy.

It is common to find STEVIA in packets

"Contains 15% Stevia and 85% sugar!"

Mexican labeling system works just like in the US. Proportionally higher percentage ingredients are listed first.

Mix molasses in with Stevia (100%) for Brown sugar effect.

Diabetics should be aware that Mexican soft drinks by law contain far more sugar sucrose than USA soft drinks that contain corn syrup "fructose". Agave syrup mentioned by Navegator is fructose (fruit sugar). The body sugar reaction between fructose and sucrose is not some life-or-death difference, but for me, one 850ml sucrose drink may raise my blood sugar from 110 to 210 while fructose seems to level it out at 180.

PS BOILING-HOT-WATER wash & rinse rice before cooking and see what happens to your blood sugar reaction.

For those of you that have diabetes you can use the "jarabe de agabe" agabe syrup, it sweetens but will not elevate the readings that much as sugar or Miel Caro that has a higher content of sugar, it is best to not use sweetened drinks during the day, sugar tends to increase the temperature of the body as it is assimilated, drink simple water and after the temperature of the day diminishes then drink something cold.

When it gets very hot take a small towel and soak it with tap water and place it around you neck also take tap water and soak your arms from the elbow down and do not dry them let them dry naturally, this helps to alleviate the heat by drawing heat from your arms and cooling the blood stream a little, keeping your neck and head moist and letting the moisture evaporate helps to maintain the temp of the body down, the worst thing to do in tierra caliente is drink sodas that are nothing bout tons of sugar water and colorant.

Once the temperature starts to go down, take 3 ice cubes place them in a Whiskey glass, then take the green limon (limes for you gringos) the yellow ones are limas and squeeze the limon on top of the ice cubes, then pour a shot of Tequila and top off with tonic water and add a small slice of limon to the drink, after 3 of these you will not fill anything at all.

And it's been hot!

Our high the last 3 days has been 90, but last night we finally dropped down to a solid 79. What a treat. Sure beats 81.

Don't get us wrong, it's wonderful, paradise, but warm. That's what the tropics are all about!
