California weigh stations

I have had no luck finding a scale in the Long Beach, CA area that will allow 4 corner weighing of my motor home. Doing some research, some people suggest stopping at a State weight station when they are closed. Does anyone know if a) the scales are still turned on when CA weigh stations are closed, and b) if that is allowed in CA.

Thanks

Itโ€™s easy enough to calculate your four corners if you eventually do find a scale. You weigh the entire vehicle by first driving the front wheels onto the scale. Note the weight.
Then pull ahead until all wheels are on the platform. Note the weight then go ahead till fronts are off. note the weight!
drive around the scale and this time approach with the right hand wheels off the platform weigh the front left ...Front and Rear ... then left rear only! Noting the weights !
Subtract the left only from the total weights ,and there you have it!

In BC they leave the scales on 24/7 even when they are closed!

CA scales are not open during off hours. Usually the off ramps are gated off. I have seen people who backed their vehicle up the out ramps, I assume due to mechanical breakdown. I would not recommemd getting caught, as it would be considered trespassing. And the scale is turned off anyway.

The scales just weight the front and back axles and that's all that is necessary and just pack a even amount on each side of RV and everything else will be AOK..

I would not go to a State weight station if your over weight that could be a problem, go to any truck stop and pay the fee, it is usually around $15

You may not be able to weigh all 4 corners, but, if you go to larger recycling yards you can weigh your vehicle there for free, if you are nice to them and they aren't busy. If you can get each individual axle weight, you'll probably be OK. Some California Highway Patrol officers have mobile scales for truckers in the back of their vehicles, but, good luck finding one who will cooperate with you. Utah has instant readout axle weights in their weigh stations. I've driven through those several times with my Class A and they didn't seem to mind.

I don't think Cal Trans scales are 4 corners anyway.
