Gasoline and Diesel going up in price

Gasoline and Diesel fuel are going up in price between October 20 and the 26, this is an increment to the special tax? of the production and service?

Magna... 3.26 pesos per liter

Premium... 3.55 pesos per liter

Diesel... 2.66 pesos per liter

Add this incremental tax to the already high cost for fuel.

Cost of living is going up for the poor and lower classes, this means that for the RV comunity expect to pay more not only for fuel but electicity and propane, all three are expensive as it is it becomes a vicious circle, to bring produce to the market you need gasoline to transport it, to produce and deliver the "tortillas" you need propane to cook, electricity for the tortilla machine and gasoline to deliver the end product, when a big portion of the population barely has one meal a day, it is no wonder why they turn to stealing gas from the pipelines.

CPI in Mexico often does not represent reality. It does not include transportation nor gasoline. Some of the goods in the basket are not really representative. At one time milk was not in the basket. But shirts are included!! I know that when I go to a large super prices are higher all the time! Restaurant prices are also higher. Just think how high fuel prices hurt a worker making say double the minimum wage. A 2 peso increase in gasoline would be a huge percentage of a poor person's income. Unlike Canada there is very little in assistance for the working poor. The disparity between the rich and he poor is almost sinful. We know women who hop on a plane to Tucson to buy some clothing. About $500 or more round trip ! Meanwhile every might there are street people digging in our garbage bin for anything of value! The number of street people has probably doubled in 18 months. This week DIF ( sort of like social services) announced they are broke! However I will say that the average Mexican has a heart. They do help the needy. The " caravan" is getting lots of help from NGO's. Even the Mexican Government has offered to help with food, shelter and even shelter. In the USA right wing armed groups are heading to the border to protect the USA from the criminal refugees!!!

Here it is the 27th and thank god, fuel prices had increased in increments the same as they had. Magna 19.22 Premium 20.02

The US has it's own form of politicoeconomics

An evil sickness of getting richer sitting behind a desk and taxing the poor via speculation. we got along fine without speculation for 200 years. So why now is "Willy The Weasel" running the company store?

Political figures are transitory.

The important thing for me personally is to remember I am an American.

Package bagging, windshield wiping, pasa-pasa parking lot helpers all get tipped. Yesterday I laid 150 pesos on my housekeeper "for the hell of it" Nena maintains my house like a hospital. She makes a decent wage of 300 pesos for a three hour weekly floor to ceiling cleanout (small place) She is perspiring when she gets done. And she insists on using not only soap but disinfectant. This is the mark of not only hard work but intelligence. One week brought a box of chocolates along with her pay. She mother-hen's me like family.

A WHOLE 20 PESO RESTAURANT TIP? Gee a flood of one quart of gasoline for the family car. And I am considered "In the middle of the bottom of three tiers of poverty" in the USA.

Whether or not someone exploits another person reveals their character. Wealthy Mexicans and our own leaders seem to have a problem in this regard.

So I basically shine politics on. I have to. Ethics is another subject.

So I try my best to help out people less fortunate than I.

Pemex has a lot of "retiered" persons that are receiving the great great grand fathers pension, the GGGF was working at the oil company when it was nationalized and when he passed away the widow received the pension, thanks to the sindicato de Pemex that pension was inherited by the children and down the line, there are persons that collect a check every month and have never worked for Pemex, apart from the politicos that also receive a mordida, in ordrer to straighten out Pemex the goverment needs to get rid of all the free loaders by checking death certificate dates and eliminate those that are not direct widows still living and not long ago deceased pensioners.

The same thing happened with the railroads, nationalized and the sindicato de ferrocarrileros has the same milk cow, that needs to be corrected, good luck with that!

This is not a political comment, it is the plain and simple truth.

All 3 of the NAFTA nations are having problems. Some political some not. I will try to stay away from the political problems but it is hard! AMLO is having trouble with Pemex. He has pledged to get rid of dead weight in the government and lower their wages. Pemex has almost the same number of active employees as retirees. Something like 125,000 to 105,000. Those retirees cost around $1800 USD a month each!!! Mexico has stated they will not sign the new trade agreement unless tariffs are removed. Canada agrees. Trump needs to keep the tariffs for political reasons. When the signing date comes on Nov.30 nothing may happen. In the meantime the auto mfrs. are holding off on any big changes. Ford in HMO has not rehired the laid off personnel. Some of the proveadors ( feeder plants) have closed and moved away! I wont get into the US problems as it is mostly political. But the economies of all 3 nations have serious difficulties to overcome. Instead of printing larger notes maybe Mexico will just do as before and devalue the currency!! (Just kidding, that won't happen). How ever I sure would not invest in Mexico right now. That would include business investments or a new house.

Smallest denomination note is the blue mylar Benito Juarez 20
Smallest coin is the 50 centavo no longer brass but silver and smaller then the US dime.

Largest coin is the 10 peso
Largest note is the 1.000

Mexico transposes the comma and the decimal point in it's numbers

Mexico's inflation rate is 6.4 percent this year? If it goes much higher, Mexico will need to print much higher Peso notes, say a 5000 Peso note. So far, when we were in Cozumel, the largest note I had was a 500 Peso note and small change was give me in 1 Peso coins (what, no more 1 Peso notes?). C

Gawd did I ever fight Brenda over this. I kept prices at the hotel the same over Semana Santa as throughout the rest of the year. For the first time in four years we had +40% occupancy for seven weeks. The NET result was a 23% gain including housekeeping deductions.

Mexican small business simply does not employ educated management. They rely on tradition, custom, and gossip.

An aborrotes on every corner was due to the level of convenience of shoppers who walked to the store every day. They paid about 20% more for spot orders instead of bulks sales. The price plus making a profit had to be passed on to customers. They hung onto fruit and vegetables until they were not only unattractive, but repulsive.

The traditional Mexican restaurant used to offer amazingly complex menus. Unfortunately 90% of the meals listed were never really available. The menus expressed what the owners would have -liked- to offer.

Mexican business philosophy: If your product sells for @5.00 and the sales drop by 50 % you simply raise the prices by 50%. When sales drop even further you do this again. Then you have to shut the doors because there are ZERO sales. Hotels and campgrounds are famous for following that routine.

Mexicanos will not tolerate inflationary prices -- they are past masters at backing down and hunkering.

Brenda laughs at my quip

"Tortillas Sal and Musica"

Because it describes perfectly the attitude taken by Mexicanos when things get tough.

It means gringo staples will disappear, jump in price or be replaced by really ugly substitutes. Like TABLE MAID MARGARINE, WILSEY MAYONNAISE in two ounce jars for a dollar and empty shelves that used to hold bread?

Such drastic economizing will be more evident in rural areas. I can easily see jars of best foods mayo that cost six to eight dollars.

And let's not forget the nutty habits of Mexican business that scream "When business goes downhill, raise prices"

This is all caused by USA and Canadian oil speculation. That eight dollar jar of mayo has five of your dollars going into someone's pocket. A quote from today's OilPrice.com the speculator's porn site: "Are OPEC And Its Allies Producing Too Much Oil?" This hurts my family tourism and 130 million Mexicans.

****, that is the same price as the Vancouver area in Canada. Add in the buy/sell exchange hit and tolls, mexico is a very expensive place to drive these days.

$1.45 Can per liter or $4.32 US per gal

Use this program to do exchanges. Click the exchange link to get the current buy rates fro the peso from USD or CDN. This works in MS Excel, you need to set macro security to low or medium for it to work. It works prices out for all 3 countries.
