In regards to quarantine, one of the reasons we adopted our newest members, its their birthday today, 13 year old brother/sister Cavaliers. The original owner was moving to Israel and she related that there was a month long quarantine and she felt at their age, it was not advisable.

Quarantine rules are set by each country and are fluid. With the appearance of new and reappearance of old diseases rules change. Rabies is a major consideration, especially in areas where there is none (Hawaii and England come to mind).

Sandy found out that Sasha arrived in the US on Nov 7. It's my understanding that the rescues here in the US work with rescues in Turkey to facilitate the transfers.

I just did a search on CDC and APHIS web sites and these are the regulations:

Quote:

How to Bring Dogs into the United States for Commercial Sale or Adoption

Importing dogs into the United States for resale, whether through commercial sale or adoption, is now covered under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). Congress added this section to the AWA in 2008 and APHIS published specific regulations in 2014.

To import a dog into the U.S. for resale purposes, the animal must be:
•in good health;
•vaccinated for rabies and distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza virus (DHLPP);
•at least 6 months of age;

Specific paperwork must accompany the dog on its trip to the U.S. This includes:
•a health certificate and rabies vaccination certificate, issued in English by a veterinarian with a valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the country of export; and
•an import permit issued by APHIS.

It looks pretty straight forward: permit, health certificate (certified healthy), and vaccinated. It doesn't look like quarantine is required for dogs unless going to states or US territories that are rabies free where there is a quarantine for every dog/cat.

We've joked about that [emoticon] She did have a Turkish name (given by the rescue in Turkey and on her passport) that Jan at Love A Golden couldn't pronounce, so she renamed her Sashi. We thought Sasha was close and easier for us.

Right now she doesn't really know her name or commands, but in just 24 hours has responded to NO and come. She also responds to a whistle. She's pretty smart and learns rapidly. I've found dogs to be pretty intuitive and sensitive to tone of voice and body language no matter what language.

When in practice I have dealt with dogs trained in Polish (we have a huge Polish population locally), Spanish and German (police dogs) and they all seemed to be bi-lingual.
