Typical here. The Big Bad 'Burban, get low double digits around town. And high single digits towing.

Its a very adequate tow motor. Ours is still awaiting a blower. Was supposed to be last year, but you all know how that goes...

Just a question, can you buy a Chevy 6.0 gas crate engine from the dealer instead of rebuilding a high mileage one?

Yes. They come in several different levels of performance.

yes you can buy a crate 6.0. However with so many in circulation, you might find one from a wrecked pickup with low miles for half the money.

I have a 2007 2500HD 6.0 and get about the same as RobWNY 8-9 mpg towing 12-14 in town 16mpg hwy.

My '04 was about exactly the same. Not fuel efficient, but extremely reliable and always towed what I needed.

Gas engine towing a camper, 7-9mpg with a few outliers. In almost every thread.

My 20+ year old truck gets....7-9 mpg towing a 6500lb GWR camper. A 6.0 2500 would do it "better", but get the same mileage.

Very good point.

We by a truck and an RV to go play and have fun with.
Who cares what the fuel economy is.

A friend once told me "If we are so concerned with the fuel mileage a given rig gets, then we probably shouldn't be buying an RV in the first place, since it would appear we don't like bad gas mileage due to the higher cost of fuel."

I had a heavy Desert Fox toy hauler.

7.5 to 8.5 was my typical towing mileage.

She was a gas hog with a too small gas tank.

The point of the 6.0 not being a snappy kind of power is true. It doesn't take off like a Camaro, but when you hook a trailer to it, it doesn't slow it down much either. It is deceptive when you test drive one. The proof is the 6.0 does very well on the HD gas shootouts, if not winning them out right. It is the lightest on the spec sheet of the big three, but puts what it has to the ground very efficiently. I am not sure there is a currently used engine gas or diesel, that has logged more miles or has a better reputation for reliability.

Very well stated Sir. Thereโ€™s so many good attributes the GM 6.0 has. It seems to run forever and never complains. I pull 10k with mine, get 8-9 loaded. Unloaded get 13-15 city and 17 hwy. 09 with 3:73 and 6 speeds, crew cab 4x4. Honestly I have never owned a better truck.
A truck, a camper, a few toys, but most importantly a wonderful family.

I agree with the others that you will be in the 8-9 mpg range towing. Great truck for the money. 118,000 miles on it and still going strong.
