Does any one have a drone they use while camping? If so, what's your choice? What's the limitations, restrictions of use in and or around campgrounds?
I'm dying to have one, but the cost can be prohibitive as are some of the restrictions in various parks.
What's the current thought trend?

Our 2351D Phoenix Cruiser, Jack, has turned us from campers into RVers and loving it!

Seems to be as contentious as carrying guns:

I have a DJI Mavic pro platinum that I keep in the Rv. We are full time and see more and more restrictions as we move around.

All the Florida State Parks are no fly drone areas.

Of course Military base campgrounds are a no fly area.(I have been at one for four months now).

It is getting difficult to find empty accessible fields to fly at too.

It is sad that several drone owners that follow the law and the rules are getting closed down because of reckless and irresponsible drone operators. But that's the way it seems to go.

I’ve been to several CG’s where they prohibit drones to avoid issues with them running into some high dollar motorhomes or other vehicles. Personally if I saw a drone hovering over my site for whatever purpose, I’d probably throw a stick at it.

I think they're prohibited at NPS parks.

The last thing seen by the drone camera would be the shot string from the 12 gage shotgun [emoticon]

Find an AMA Chartered field in your area, and fly legally all you want to. If you don't have it, get your AMA membership, and your FAA registration, obey all the regulations and safety rules, and enjoy you flights.

I have one and enjoy it. Yes some like to scream and posture about them. The cameras on all but the most expensive are wide angle and cant see anything with enough detail to actually spy on much unless it gets within 20 feet of what they are filming. Stay 50 yards from folks and its pretty benign.
To get decent video of scenery, you will need something stable in flight with a good vibration dampener.
Larger units will let you see them from farther away, and better handle breezes.
Better brands are DJI, Yuneec, Parrot. For a cheap unit to learn on, You may want to look at the Holy Stone units, they generally have decent review for a cheaper drone to learn on and parts and support are pretty decent.
Read the reviews on Amazon and Helmart, watch some YouTube videos some are sales tools but its not too hard to sort the wheat from the chaff.

FWIW I started with a cheap $89 Sky Viper, Had GPS and worked, but was so small I couldnt see it more than 50 yards from me, went to a Holystone HS 100, longer range, larger, more stable, remote and cell phone for video while flying was poor. Now fly a refurbished Yuneec Q-500, awesome unit, smoothe, stable, long range, 18 min flight, good support. Controller has built in video screen with good range. New cost is upwards of $900, refurb from Helmart was $350 with a warranty.

It only took 5 posts to get to the anticipated 'shoot down and/or steal the drone' post. [emoticon]
