This is the time of year people attend RV shows to see the latest models. Just wanted to make people aware of some fraudulent activity going on with one particular vendor. We purchased two tickets for a total of $20 at the door for a weekend RV show in Oklahoma City. The vendor was State Fair Park of Morrisville, N.C. and we used our credit card. One week later our Discover card was charged by this same vendor, for $14. I filed a dispute with the credit card company and am waiting for results of their investigation. Just thought people should be aware.

Did the first $20 get charged and then another $14?

Yes. They charged us $20, which was the price of the tickets for getting into the show, and then one week later they charged us $14.

How would they have charged him if he used cash?

They wouldn't be able to if he used cash. But if he used a debit card, they already have his money though he will get it back.....eventually. With a credit card you just contest the charge and never pay it. We never use a debit card, just credit cards.

I don't follow your logic. I know of no other form of payment where someone could receive a fraudulent payment based on the method of the first payment. Can't be done if you pay by check or cash.

Cash, can be stolen, while only what you carry, but if stolen recovery is unlikely.

Debit cards can be stolen and your checking account emptied, and if you have overdraft protection tied to a saving account that can also be emptied. Recovery depends on bank and how quickly your report the missing card.

Check, once you give your check to someone they have your bank account number right there, never heard of check by phone?

Credit card, you can challenge charges it is the cards money not yours until you pay the bill. We have alerts on all cards set to the minimum amount possible, but you know when it is used.

We use AMEX for most of our living expenses, no set limit, limit is based on usage history and payment record. No not everybody takes it, but used one for 20 years at work for travel, never an issue, and covered my a$$ more than once. I had alerts set on it for any charge greater than $10, I would an alert before a waitress returned with the slips. In Canada where the transaction is completed at the table (your card never leaves your sight) I would get the alert BEFORE the receipt printed!
