Oil change SHOCK

A friend of mine called yesterday and asked how much I was paying to get my Powerstroke diesel pickups oil changed and fuel filters changed. I told him I buy my filters ( motorcraft) on line for like $90 with shipping, oil at Wal Mart for around $60 and I change it all myself , so around $150 dollars.

He told me the reason he was asking was his wife took their 2011 Ram 3500 diesel to Big O tires and told them she wanted a oil change plus filters....oil, fuel and air. About an hour later she was told.... your trucks done... went to pay the bill and it was $415 for that truck to be serviced. I have never seen a service bill for a semi oil change that high... Told him thanks for the heads up on that I dang sure won’t be doing any business with Big O !! $415 for an oil change and filters on a pickup........No way !

I pay 79.00 at my dealer for an oil change. I do the fuel filters myself for the cost of the filters for about 70 bucks.

Mine has 30,000 km on it and so far it hasn't asked for the second oil change. I usually trade the truck in before changing fuel filters.

What are the oil change intervals for the new HD trucks up to now? I know the Cummins is 15k miles and the Hemi is 8k miles in the Ram HDs, but I haven't kept up with the latest in the other two.

$125 for two fuel filters? It should be a quarter of that for OEM.

I'm not up on my labeling of people so I don't know what a "Gen Z" is.

I figure I'll judge people by what they do and how they act rather than assume something about them from what I've read on an online forum. But that's just me.

Is it really possible that folks are unaware of things like this?
Maybe you should actually reread the original post. The OP commented on what had happened to his friend, not him. He thought it was ridiculous. And many agreed, and many have commented that if a person so chose to go where the OP's friend went, then the prices would probably be commensurate to the OP's friends experience.

So it wasn't an issue per se, it was a comment from the OP on how ridiculous he considered the cost.

I understand that, and maybe I "assumed" the OP's friend was not a Gen Z.

Oil change on my Duramax is about $50.00 if I do it myself.

If I take it to my selling dealer, it's $0.00.

I used to take it there all the time until I moved 300 miles away.

I always take it to my GMC dealer as they own that engine for 100,000 miles. They cost a little more but they have found and repaired issues in the past.
I can see your point in a way, but they're going to own that engine for 100,000 miles regardless of where you have the oil changes done.
