coating geotextile fabric

I have a crushed stone dust pad under a carport for my trailer. Around the sloped edges of the pad on the outside of the carport I have woven geotextile fabric to prevent erosion from all of the really hard rains that we have been getting. I had wondered about coating that fabric with asphalt sealer just to extend the life of the fabric, keep the cut edges from fraying, and possibly improve the appearance. Has anyone ever tried anything similar to this? Thanks.

Geotextile fabric is designed to allow water to pass through. If you coat it with asphalt sealer, that can no longer happen. Coating maybe the last 1/2" to keep it from unraveling would probably be ok.Coating all of it will just cause your gravel pad to flood at the edges.

I cant get a picture right now but all of the rock pad outside of the carport is covered with the fabric. Had some really hard rains and strong winds today and it did what I wanted.
