Red Bluff to Ancient Redwoods RV park in Recrest

The most direct route is hwy 36, but I being advised to take a longer route and use hwy 299. Anybody have any actual experience with theses roads? On the maps 299 doesn't look any better. TIA!

No on 36W Red Bluff to coast in an RV.

It is a motorcycle/sports car road (fun!). Not fun with anything large.

Personally, I would take 36 west to 44 and take 44 into Redding. I have traveled that route numerous times and it is somewhat shorter then taking 299.

We loved staying there in 2016, but cell service was limited to standing in one spot by the sign that said stand here for cell service. Not joking. Maybe it has expanded by now. Very well kept camground.

36 is not a route for an RV... 299 is fine and there is usually construction during the summer as already mentioned. Just be advised that there are 4 mountain passes to get over, all are about 4500 feet, no big deal except the west side of Oregon Mountain which is a steep decent, but go slow and no problem. Be sure to stop at the Straw House in Big Flat for lunch. If your coming up 5 from the south consider 20 at Williams across Lake County then north on 101.

36 is great on a motorcycle -- not so great for an RV. I would avoid it!

299 is no problem -- the turns are not nearly as tight, lots of turnouts to let the faster vehicles go by.
