Hi,

I agree that engines are more efficient at higher temperatures--but when it is 30 below zero, mine does open a bit causing the temperature to drop fairly dramatically, according to the ScanGauge.

I can't prove it, but most thermostats open at 190. Engine operate more efficiently at higher temperatures.

Mine doesn't open until 192F. Seems to fully open about 204F then it drops into the 190s again.

It should hover around what ever the thermostat is. If 190, then that's what the engine temp should be. Oil temp will be higher, between 210 and 230 depending on how much load is on the engine, but water temp should not. Clutch fans usually will kick in about boiling point 212 degrees.

Thermostat opens at 162 F. I've seen 219 F.

Winter time 180 F. Summer time 206 F.

Temperature rises rapidly with load. It goes down quickly, too.

YMMV
