We have a trip planned for the eastern states. We will be traveling through OH, PA, NY, Conn, ME, VT, NH, Is there an EZ-Pass for the toll roads that we can get to cover more then one state? Some will be with the RV and some will be just with the truck. Also can we purchase it ahead of time or for instants we are spending the night in Youngstown, OH right on the border of PA. Could we buy one there? or is it best to purchase online? Thanks Deb

I wanna go where I haven't been, but still wanna see what I've seen again!

I don't believe EZ-Pass works in Vermont or Connecticut but will work in the other states you mentioned. Personally, I would call EZ-Pass and ask which unit(s) to purchase. I'd offer you a phone number but they are specific to the State you call. You likely will need two units. I need one for when I'm in my car or truck without the camper and another one for when I am hooked up. The tolls are based on the number of axles you have.

I have a Mass-Pass (EZPass) myself. The Mass Pass is free (up to 4 transponders), most others charge you for the transponders. Bought mine online.

One thing to keep in mind is that Eastern States are revamnping their toll schedules and just because you have a pre pass, don't mean the rate is cheaper. In some cases it's more.

I would figure out which state the tolls are going to be highest in. Most likely PA if you are traveling the full length. And get the EZ Pass from that state. That way you are most likely to get the biggest discount for using it.
In PA you can buy them at the rest area's or even Walmart. However, there is a catch, at least with the Walmart ones. You must register it online and it can take 24 hours for it to be activated. I would guess the ones you buy at the rest areas would be the same.
Ordering one ahead of time should be the best option.

EZ-Pass doesn't work in Vermont mainly because there are no toll roads or bridges in Vermont. (I'm excepting a few carriage/mountain roads that are part of state parks with entrance fees or very similar private roads/bridges.) I think the same logic applies to Connecticut; there's no EZ-Pass support because there's no place where it would make sense to use it.

Any EZ-Pass transponder, regardless of origin, will work for any EZ-Pass member state/transportation authority's toll roads and bridges.

AAA offices can set you up with EZ-pass. Once you get the transponder and the windshield sticker-on holder, you get online and set up your account. In PA, at least, you will have to load an amount into your account and set up an automatic payment once your balance goes below a certain amount.

An E-ZPass from NY or any other E-ZPass issuing state is good in all 16 E-ZPass states and the Central Florida Expressway. A NY E-ZPass with an auto refill account has no fees unless you want snail mailed statements. The NY Thruway also has a "Motorhome Plan" that only charges passenger car per axle rates regardless of how big the motohome is.
