Speaking of hooligans, how about the ones that park their Diesel bombers in the charging station parking spots just to mess around with electric car owners? These have to be some of the dumbest people I’ve ever heard of.

True. But the people will win this one. We are already seeing tightening parking restrictions around here. A 440 dollar parking and impound bill sends a message. [emoticon]. This kinda thing gets sorted out over time.

The other question is once so many people are driving EV's there is a lot less tax money that is part of the cost of ever gallon of gas or diesel. So how do you now get that tax money to pay for road work that should be paid for by the people driving on the roads? You can't just raise the taxes on electric that would not be fair to people who do not drive. Now the more you drive the more fuel you use so the more you pay in taxes. There is already complaints about the tax revenue from fuel going down because of more fuel efficient vehicles.

As I stated before, tax the EVs by the mile, or even better, all vehicles by the mile.

how do you see that being accomplished? self-reporting? some sort of tamper proof aux odometer that either reports to the state automatically or read by a state employee? what about out-of-state travel? should that be deducted?

"Yah. That is a thing. And we are seeing it here in B.C. as well. This year 8 percent of all new vehicle sales are Electric and its accelerating."

How do the GREENIES justify this as they are killing Salmon since most of the power in your area is produced by Hydro Electric. It's all such a bunch of Barbara Streisand.

Well, like I said before trucking companies have for decades been required to report miles driven in each state. If the penalties are high enough for miss reporting it would work. Many states require all vehicles to have a safety inspection every year or 2. I bet every one of the inspections the mileage is recorded. Not much of a problem for the state to compare that to what the owner reported. Not enough tax paid? Pick up the car. Owner pay tax, plus penalty, prove why you don't owe, (like miles and tax in another state) or the car is sold by state at auction.

Where is the big extra cost? Our state already checks the county taxes have been paid before renew the plates. Also make sure you have paid the NGO that rules the country. The cost of impounding the tax delinquent vehicle? Fold into the prenatally.

Easy fix. Remember. The people are always right. Go to your goverment candidate and tell him he or she doesn’t have your vote unless they pass laws that all vehicles in your country from now until perpetuity must be gas or diesel so taxes can be collected on the fuel to pay for roads. If you get enough support your problem is solved. Let us know how it goes. [emoticon]

take a guess. big brother keeps getting bigger. so now i may be forced to prove a negative...that i didn't drive X miles in my home state.

wait! i know!! each state will setup border checkpoints automatically reading my odometer and by definition my identity thus tracking my movements. i'll get an annual bill or more likely it will just be deducted from my bank account like a toll for driving in a different state. big brother will know my whereabouts but of course this knowledge will be kept confidential, right?

i agree that EV owners need to pay an equivalent road-upkeep tax. each state already knows how much tax they now collect and how many gassers are registered in the state. one divided by the other gets a per-car average. each EV owner would be taxed that average amount. some problems with this as well but it doesn't require a massive bureaucracy, state agents and intrusive govt surveillance to work. of course the other problem is forcing the state to actually spend the dollars collected for the intended purpose.
