Good point.

A city cop said I'd ran a red light, and I convinced him the light he saw in the oncoming direction was red since the left turn and green lights were on in my direction. That was years ago. He still asked me if I had been drinking and where I was coming from.

There is something special about camping in an RV.

By 6 inches? To know, the officer would have had to measure. Who held the other end of the tape? [emoticon]

If you're holding the dumb end of the tape, there's no reason to be 6" too long! just sayin....

Had a nosy b!tch neighbor who didn't like me building a new house. So at every opportunity she'd call the county building dept and complain that I was building too close to the lake. (Technically I was. The setback requirement was 75' and depending on how you interpreted it, I was anywhere from about 65-85' back. She didn't know a dang thing, there was no required building inspections or surveys. Every time the poor inspector came out to answer the complaint, I held the dumb end of the tape, through the brush, down at the edge of the lake to make sure it was less than 75'!!
He showed up I think 5 different times. After the first 3, he'd just have a beer and ask me if I moved the house any closer to the lake since the last time he'd been out!

CA it's legal with endorsement. I can and do double tow there since I am licensed SD. I have double towed thru OR and WA 3 round trips now without issue. I am guessing they don't care since I am licensed SD.
I don't think that the fact you're licensed in SD would mean much if they pulled you over for pulling doubles in a state where it isn't allowed. I don't think reciprocity extends to that particular item.

My BIL was pulled over in Minnesota for pulling a boat behind his 5th wheel, and told his 5th wheel was too long by 6 inches. He was perfectly legal in Iowa, but that certainly cut no ice in Minnesota. FWIW he had traveled up there several other times, with the exact setup, with no stops and no issues.

Who knows what may happen. Many State Patrol have driven right along side of me or I have passed them along the shoulder. If told to seperate I will do so no argument. I have saved over 3k in transport fees so far.

my neighbor, the former chief of police, had the philosophy that in case of disagreement, write up the ticket, the perp would have to take off work, come 1000 miles back to argue the case in court. but I am curious as to exactly what was "backed down" on?

DOT had not put up reduced speed signs for a construction zone yet. He had passed me a couple miles back in a hurry. The pavers were still getting ready. A mile or so after the starting point of the construction area that had no reduced speed signs yet I was doing 70 on I-90 in Eastern WA.

On a turn ahead to my left out physically jumped a State Patrolman waving his arms to pull over. I did so and waited for him to pull in behind me.

Ha asked if I knew why he flagged me over. I said no. But in reality I did know. I told him I was not speeding and told him to contact DOT and verify no signs were up yet and the DOT guy flew past me a few miles back.

He was quite irritated by this! Of course he had to get the last word in.

“Make sure to stick to 55 thru the construction zone” he said. He was an overly aggressive jerk.

Not sure, he might of been a jerk, but from what I read here you where the one acting like a donkey.
IMHO, nobody should get a ticket for speeding thru a construction zone. Stop them, drag him to the start of zone, blindfold, and stand him in a barrel and put him on the line to protect the workers for a few hours!

So I am a "donkey" because I could put parts of the puzzle together???

I call that being observant of my surroundings.

To be clear there was ZERO signs on the road referring to speed change or construction.

They were the ones NOT having their CHIT together.

But hey if it makes you FEEL better call me a few more names.

In your post YOU stated you knew you should of slowed down, people on the road is sign enough. But you also said because there was no other sign you are going to exercise your dog given right to put workers lives at risk. What would you think if it was somebody driving thru your kids playground.
